(record review)PADDY AND THE RATS:”Riot City Outlaws”(Nordic Records)

2017 - Riot City Outlaws

This is the newest fifth album by this Miskolc, Hungary based celtic Irish folk punk band that became pretty big in Europe and is becoming bigger and bigger every day due to hard work and persistence. The last album “Boullevard of…” did not have that something in itself that would make me remember it and listen to it again and again. This new album is much more melodic, energetic, diverse and I can tell you that it is a great record! What I love about this band is, they did not jump up the bandwagon and just played some shitty folk music as long as it can bring them some money. On the contrary, they mixed also some gypsy and ska and csardas/polka elements in their song and brought them a breath of Hungary and its native music. The album contains 15 songs, some faster and more uptempo, some more midtempo and balladic but it is a tour de force in melody, emotions and great musicianship. I am sure that this band is hell of a fun to see and hear live! Hope that I will be able to do that soon! I am not a fan of this kind of punk, but this band is awesome! Top songs: “Castaway”, “One Last Ale”, “Bound By Blood”
