(album review)CAEDEOUS-“Domini Tenebrarum”

Caedeous is Portuguese symphonic black metal band and this is their new album and I am proud that I listened and reviewed it for my webzine.

CAEDEOUS - DOMINI TENEBRARUM (CD COVER)

This project was born in the dead of night as a child of  Portuguese composer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist musician and producer Paulo J. Mendes. The album was recorded at Studio7 and mastered at Finnvoxx Studios by Mika Jussila.

It contains 7 songs and I can surely say that this is by far the best symphonic black metal that I have listened in a last couple of years. Heavy riffs, aggressive passages, but also emotional and heartfelt melodies mixed with atmospheric parts and vocals sung in various voices, from whispering to screams, topped with choirs and excellent female vocals that sing, laugh, croon and talk, make this record a must. This record could easily be one of the best horror movie soundtracks that I have listened to in a while. I still love symphonic melodic black metal and this record is a must if you are a fan of such music. Top songs: “Fall of Mankind”, “Siege of Draedemor”.

(new video)Toxikull present first video off the upcoming album “The Nightraiser”

Portuguese speed metallers Toxikull have just released the video for the track “Nightraiser”, off the album with the same name. Featuring a dark and raw tone, inspired by videos from the 80’s filled with grain and contrast, it captures and illustrates the old-school and aggressive musical style the band plays.

3f49b738-13cd-4d94-b8dc-30ee6e4c4db1

The video was recorded by Tomás Carraca at Another Place (Almada, Portugal). Edited by Miguel Carrapiço.

“The Nightraiser” will be released on March 23rd worldwide by Mosher Records and Firecum Records and is already available for pre-order through the labels’ websites.

After 2016’s surprise by the shape of “Black Sheep”, Toxikull return with the incredible EP “The Nightraiser” (Mosher / Firecum Records). “The Nightraiser” is a relentless sonic attack that evokes the best elements that made heavy, speed and thrash metal so popular: impressive vocals, a tight rhythm section, blazing guitar solos and carefully crafted melodies.
Fearless, taunting, leather-jacket wearing maniacals Toxikull are a quintet from Cascais, Portugal, who play their metal heavy and fast! Fronted by the brothers Lex Thunder and Michael Blade, Toxikull is one of the most promising european underground bands, when it comes to heavy/ speed/thrash, mostly due to the high energy display during their live gigs.

(album review)Poldur’s Gate Project-“Directions”

Is there such thing as synthesized metal? Yes there is! This is the most unusual thing that I have listened to and reviewed for this zine.

This is a one man solo vision of Luca Bussolini and it is a concept album featuring two characters called Hanako and Shin. The concept theme is looking for the new objectives and about the failures along the way which help us in understanding the trail of our lives.

What is so new and different? Well, all the music and vocals on this album are synthesized from software, there is no real musicians, singers in a classical sense of band. And it works! The music is melodic power prog metal with nice riffs, melodic guitar hooks and memorable tunes which caught me humming all the time. In my opinion, the only thing which needs to be worked on is that in some songs, the vocals are too monotone, meaning too same sounding. But, that is only my opinion. I must applaud to Luca for having a vision which carries a bit of controversy but is important. Top song on this album for me is “Time for a Will”-
