(album review)NEXUS-“The Taint”(Agoge Records)

Nexus come from L’Aquila area in Italy and they were formed in 2009.by vocalist/guitarist Vlad Voicu and bassist/backup vocalist Tony Di Marzio with a dream of combining alternative metal, gothic rock and electronics in their music.

nexus the taint (2)

Agoge Records released their new album and I listened to it and reviewed it for this zine. The album contains 9 tracks of melodic alternative metal with gothic rock influences. The emphasis is on metal because the song structures are heavy but melodic and you ccan almost imagine dancing on these tunes in some gothic club. Vocals are nice and they are not some half spoken word from the tomb, quite the contrary, they make goosebumps on my skin with the melodies especially on “Crimson Wine”, one of the best songs of the album. The use of keyboards and electronics in the songs makes them more rich soundwise. Along the mentioned song, some more songs that were somehow the best for me on this album are “Stillborn” and “Close Your Eyes”. This album is a perfect soundtrack for the rainy and gloomy day, to stop you from being so depressive and teach you how to live with the depression.

This is Core is pleased to present the new DRY YOUR EYES video, “Uranos”, premiered on Ghost Killer Entertainment, which anticipates the release of “Cardinals” on March 15th on all the most important digital platforms.

Tracklisting:
Cardinals
Echo (Interlude)
Nothern Lights
Scarlett O’Hara
Tides
Uranós

Carlo Mosconi, singer and leader of the band, comments on the release of the album and the video:
“The different songs of our EP have been conceived starting from a technical writing of the instrumental, with a precise target of listeners in mind.
For Uranós, this is not valid. The starting point for this song was the theme related to the universe , to the sense of freedom but also to the fear that infuses deep and infinite space (Uranós is the ancient Greek word for heaven).
We started from a feeling, from an atmosphere, but above all from the idea of a video with contrasting emotions, comparing simple daily life actions to the magnificence and grandeur of the sky.”

(record review)STORMZONE-“Lucifer´s Factory” (Metal Nation Records)

Stormzone already released five mighty albums and now is the time for the new, sixth one and judging by what I listened, this is going to be their best album yet.

cover_1520251184778867

New album contains 13 tracks of melodic heroic power metal, not unlike the legendary first two Hammerfall records that I still love to this day. But, we are not talking about the Swedes here, we are talking about Stormzone. Hailing from Belfast, these guys simply did one of the best power metal records that I have listened to in a last couple of years. On this album the band lyrically oriented on myths and legends of their country, Ireland, so the lyrics are heavily based on folklore tales packed in excellent music and vocal arrangements. I personally loved “We Are Strong” and “The Heaven You Despise” the most on this record, but all of the tracks are indeed memorable with anthemic choruses and catchy vocal melodies and guitar hooks. I would love to bang my head and sing along their anthems with Stormzone at one of their gigs and hopefully one day will do so! Until then, I will listen to their albums to memorize the songs for the live show!
