(horror movie)GET OUT(2017.)-good one but not quite horror

Chris Washington is a man that has everything he desired in his life. He has a beautiful girlfriend and he prepares to meet her family the Armitages for the first time. He is a bit scared what will their reaction be when they see that he is black, although his girlfriend assures him that they are not racist or have no prejudices.

When they arrive at her parents remote house, everything is nice and seems fun and smalltalk at first. During the dinner Chris realizes something is wrong talking with Allisons parents and her younger brother. Also, two coloured workers at the estate are acting strange. Suddenly, events unfold in fast and unexpected way.

Judging by all hype and media attention that rose around this movie I was determined to watch this one. Some of my friends have told me that its an excellent movie, so let us see how this one went for me.

This movie is placed nonchalantly and nominally under the banner of horror, but I will agree that the movie is more of a politically engaged thriller with racism still lingering in the world as a main theme. Daniel Kaluuya is brilliant as a main character Chris, but all of the cast is great mainly because of the great scenario.  Oh, that dream scare was a bit too much for me, but I love how the first fourty or so minutes of the movie go kinda slow, but then all hell breaks loose. The twist at the ending of the movie was great, but still calling this movie horror is a matter of discussion. This is a great movie, but maybe we should call it supernatural thriller instead.

(album review)HORRORSCOPES-“Batkin”

Time for some horrorpunk again! Horrorscopes were formed in 2016.and are coming from Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

This zine and I have had our share of good and band and mediocre horrorpunk bands, some being plain clones, some being original and great proving that horrorpunk is a small but great scene made of talented individuals and all of us have some nerdish and freakish line in ourselves but we are proud of it. This album is a strong work made of 8 excellent melodic songs with guts. blood and necrodarkromantic themes. Production is excellent and the guitars and bass are just the way I like them to be. Drumming is tight and the band proves they can play. One more thing that is important in horrorpunk are the vocals and back vocals. This band has great screaming but melodic vocals, with great and harmonised backing vocals to make it stronger. I hate comparisons but they remind me a lot of Japanese legends Blitzkid though not so melodic and the lyrics are sung great minding the fact that English is not the bands native speaking language. Highlight songs: “Dead Love”;”With Your Ghost”.

(record review)BUCK TOW TRUCK-“Death Wields A Six String”

Buck Tow Truck comes from Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, founded by Andrew Dona. This one man band plays a mix of hard rock influenced power metal and epic metal that remins a bit of Bathory circa “One Road To Asa Bay” era.

cover_1515593156353926

This record contains 9 tracks of midtempo metal with some hard rock riffing and clean sung but somehow filthy vocals. The whole record is produced in some dirty and more raw feeling of late 80-ies and early 90-ies. Listening to it that way I become kind of nostalgic for those times. There is also some Iron Maiden and Saxon/Priest song structures thrown in there for your listening pleasure. The melodies are simple but effective and the song titles have some tongue in cheek value along with flying the true metal flag. You just cant go wrong with the song titles being “The Battle Cry”, “Anarchy Metal” and “The Heavy Metal Warrior” for example.

Nothing special, but this album proves once again that one man bands can indeed be both quality and interesting at the same time.
