(record review)Garden of Hesperides-“Forest Journey Pt.III – Final Moments”(Bloody Mountain Records)

Garden of Hesperides is a third opus in the nature themed trilogy, first two were about forests and this third opus takes us on the journey into the mountains above the green vast forests. I listened and reviewed the record for this webzine.

This band is a one man solo project of an individual called Sxuperion and it came out on his small underground label Bloody Mountain Records. The information about this band project and about Sxuperion are scarce on the web because the guy likes to keep his privacy and is loyal to the underground values, almost all that is known is that he is hailing somewhere from California area. This record contains 6 songs of atmospheric, sad and depressed black metal which takes me to the mountains while listening and I can almost feel the cold, cruel but magnificent and majestic magic of the vast and eternal mountains. The production is old school black metal, with vocals being growly and low in the mix, fast parts changing with some acoustic and atmospheric ambiental passages. There are also some samples on this record, which I like a lot when some black metal band uses those to spice up the atmosphere on the record. If I must compare the music to someone, then it would be Arckanum, don´t know really if it really can be compared but somehow that springs to mind which is not a bad thing. In all, this is a decent atmospheric black metal record.

(record review)SATORI JUNK-“The Golden Dwarf”(Endless Winter)

Satori Junk is the band hailing from Milan, Italy and this is their second full length album out on mighty Endless Winter Label. I listened to the record and reviewed it for this webzine.

The album contains intro plus six songs, one of them being The Doors cover of “Light my Fire”. The music Satori Junk are playing is some hybrid of doom metal with a lot of atmosphere and darkened, almost psychodelical passages with lyrics which draw inspiration from horror movies and literature combined with nightmares. Sound interesting? It bloody is. “All Gods Die” starts like a dreamy, atmospheric voyage, evolves into full blooded up tempo doom metal song only to die down in murky atmosphere again. “Cosmic Prison” starts almost as sludgy, rolling song being very tortured and very painful, like being trapped in the atmosphere of Lovecraftian cosmic horror. The electronic back sounds only add to the eerie feeling of this song. “Blood Red Shrine” is for me the best song on this record, having almost tribal, ritualistic primal vibe in its song structure. “Death Dog” is the longest song on this record and it reminds me a lot of old Hammer horror movies, I don´t know why, but it is a good thing. The title song is slow and dreamy, nightmarish doom horror anthem. I don´t like The Doors and their music but this cover of “Light my Fire” in doomy, sludgy version was just great. I am not a fan of music such as this, but this is a decent effort.
