Colour Me Wednesday are feminist DIY pop melodic punk band from west London and I am really happy that I had the chance to listen and review for this zine their new record that is coming out via Krod Records.
The four girls in the band play nice melodic pop punk music with a lot of indie influences. The album contains 11 beautiful songs with a lot of catchy melodies that leave you humming the songs long afterwards you finish listening the album. But, don´t get me wrong these songs are in no way empty and devoid of any messages. Quite the contrary, Colour Me Wednesday lyrics are anti capitalist, queer, feminist and the girls have their hearts in the right places for sure. The songs that I somehow consider the highlights of the album are “Heather´s Left For Dead”, “Enterpreneur” and “Not My Turf”. This band and this album is the living proof that you can get your messages across without having to scream your lungs out with brutality on your record and at your gig. Melodic way is better, at least in my opinion. Great record for sure.
This record marks the first five years of Energy´s mastermind Jason Tankerley being this band´s sole songwriter and driving force.
Energy ara hailing from Stoughton, MA area and are playing nice mixture of melodic punk, almost pop punk and horrorpunk. This album features 14 songs, one being Ramones´s “Pet Sematary” cover. I must admit that I have never heard of this band prior to this record, so I can´t say that I was a fan before, but now I definitely am. Why? Because of catchy guitar melodies and tunes, great vocals and backing vocals and especially because of anthemic songs. For me, the absolute highlights of this record are “Under the Mask”, “I Killed Your Boyfriend” and “The Shape Retreats”. If you are a fan of melodic, almost pop punk with horror touch, feel free to check out Energy, you won´t regret it!
Norway is maybe best known for their black metal scene, but there are other bands there, believe it or not. Oh See Demons are one of them and this is their new album.
The album contains 11 tracks of beautiful melodic punk, skatepunk with hardcore influences. I loved the energetic opener “Don´t forget me” and the follow up “I think you left your shoes” with fast paced drumming, energetic and melodic hooks with excellent vocals and backing vocal harmonies. Lyrics deal, as the title says with personal issues and they are emotional but also leave you think about what you have listened to long after the album finishes playing. One of the highlights of the album is also “Mouth Breather” the single from the album, it hits you in the head with emotions, melody and you know that these guys play their stuff with their hearts and minds in the right places. This is an excellent album, a must listen!
