This is the first official live album by The Obnoxious from Rotterdam, recorded on their home territory, in their hometown. The record came out on mighty WTF Records to somehow bridge the gap and appease the fans until the release of their new studio full length.
The album contains 15 songs setlist by these scene veterans from the nineties. I must admit that I didn˙t listen to this band prior to getting my paws on this record, so I am glad I discovered this band. The music this band plays is hardcore punk that is pretty harsh and has a lot of metallic influences but also has plenty of melodic underlines. I must also mention the humour and ironic lyrics of the songs that somehow mirror the today˙s state of the world. As far as my taste goes, I love the faster more hardcore songs like “The End Of The World” or “Hide Your Head Away” for example, songs made for circle pit and stage diving. This live album shows how much energy can this fine band release and with songs like “The Dancing Soldier Song” , “State of Anarchy” and “Rotterdamn it” you just can`t go wrong!
The new studio album of Mighty Mighty Bosstones, the legendary ska core band is upon us! I listened and reviewed the record for this webzine!
The legendary purveyors of ska core, a mixture of ska, punkrock and hardcore are now celebrating their 35 years anniversary. This brand new album contains 14 songs of melodic skacore at it´s best. The record is diverse in mood and vibe, from the more energetic “Green Bay, Wisconsin” to the more calm punkrock vibe of “The Constant”. One of my personal favorites of this record is “Wonderful Day For The Race” being the true anthem just made for live singing along and dancing to the ska punk beat. Reggae beat of “Unified” is an anthem of unity and the scene that we all love so much. “Closer to Nowhere” is a classic ska song for the 21st century and I would love to hear this song on some open air festival on the warm Summer evening dancing with my beloved to this awesome ska rythm. “Walked Like a Ghost” is for me the most emotional song on the record with the lyrics that totally touched my heart. “In Honor Of” and “After the Music is Over” are the songs that will make your day and put a smile on your tired face. Good album.
Time for some crust punk hardcore to grace the pages of this zine. Namely, Fredag den 13:e, Swedish band from Gothenburg. This is their new album out on EveryDayHate and I listened and reviewed the record for this zine.
The album contains 11 songs of melodic crusty punk hardcore with catchy melodic Gothenburg styled riffs, mixed with d-beat and dirty punk n roll influences. The melodic opener “Plagad av ljuset” only opens up towards more dirty punk n roll styled “1984”. The lyrics are in Swedish language and I don˙t understand what they are about. But the band speaks about waking up the conciousness and stepping and looking beyond the mirror, so it is alright. I usually easily get bored when listening to such records because crusty punk is not my cup of tea, but this one is good because its melodic and catchy in all this brutality, so it kinda reminds me of their countrymen Myteri who played in my hometown couple of years ago and I loved their set. So, if you are a fan of such hardcore punk, go get this record you won`t regret it! Top songs: “Salj mig licka” and “Ar du hora eller gud”.
