(record review)SQUARE SHAPES-“S/T”

Punkrock and hardcore scene is worldwide, so it is with great pleasure that I announce this is the first review for the band from Hawaii. Square Shapes is a melodic punk hardcore band from Kekaha, Hawaii and I listened and reviewed their new record for this webzine.

This record contains 12 highly energetic songs with contagious melodies, nice anthemic choruses and great vocals. But, let´s be a bit more precise. There are some faster hardcore songs like “Knife Fight” or “In The Lineup” which reminded me a lot of early 7 Seconds, but with some modern hardcore touches fit for 21st century. In fact, the whole album is a nod to the old school influences with a look towards the future. There are also slower punkrock songs which I loved too like “Caramia” which is one of my favorite songs on this record or “Jamala”. The vocals and the backing vocals are very important to me in this kind of punkrock and they are awesome on this record. Great colour of singer´s voice and excellent back harmonies. The lyrics are personal with emotions and hearts in the right place, but also a great dose of humour if I understood the songs right. This is an awesome record!

8/10
