(record review)LOST LOVE-“Good Luck Rassco”

Remember Lost Love? We already featured this fine melodic punk/pop punk from Montreal on the pages of this webzine. Now, it is about time that I listen to and review their new record for this webzine.

The record contains 11 songs of emotional melodic pop punk. If you are a fan of the faster skate hardcore punk, this music is not for you. Twenty plus years ago, even ten, I hated bands like Lost Love, I considered them non punk bands who only ruin our scene. I am still sorry and will ever be for being so wrong. The lyrics on this record as I interpret them are a mixture of personal emotions and a lot of humour mixed with autoirony. “Are You Still Alive You Dumb Phoque?” is one of my personal favorites on this record sounding almost indie and proving that these guys are great song writers. The pumping beggining of “Clay Turris” marks the start of the pretty soundscape that takes the listener somewhere daydreaming about the happiest times he or she had in life. “Turisto Cracko” and “Hangover Drive” finish off the quartet of my favorite songs on this record.  That doesn`t mean that the others are not good. These guys will be huge in the future!

(record review)GOODBYE BLUE MONDAY-“Misery Punk Ruined My Life”(Make-That-A-Take Records)

I must admit that I have never heard of Goodbye Blue Monday from Scotland prior to listening and reviewing this record that came out via Make-That-A-Take Records.

Goodbye Blue Monday CD Cover Art

This record contains three songs of melodic punkrock but what makes it different from the other bands in that genre are the harsh but melodic vocals. Those vocals fit really great in the song structures and additional gang and backing vocals make anthemic choruses just made for singing along with this band. The music of this band somehow reminded me really much of Croatian band Mašinko because they make similar urban melodic and up tempo punkrock and I loved this record very much. The lyrics are personal as far I understand and there is a lot of bitterness and irony and emotion behind the lyrics, at least I think so. All three songs are great, but somehow I love “Love Is a Noose For Two” somehow the most. Great record!
