(record review)OGENJ-“Domaj”(Dancing Bear)

Croatian band Ogenj released their awesome debut album and I listened to it and reviewed it for this webzine.

This band is kinda new band on this scene, but the guys from the band were playing in the bands prior to Ogenj for years, so they have plenty of experience and scene mojo. Ogenj means “fire” in Croatian dialect and this band plays a nice mixture of punkrock and folk ethno music characteristic for the northern Croatian regions. The album contains 12 songs in Croatian dialect that people speak in Podravina, Zagorje and Medjimurje(northern parts of Croatia). The music is very melodic, the violin adds to the power of the songs, but also, the melodies are somehow sad and nostalgic. The album starts a bit softer with first two or three songs, but “Hote, hote” is an absolute hit paraphrasing Nirvana and The Offspring in melody. Then things start to get awesome with my personal favorites “Domaj”, “Fakinska” and an anti war song “Bojno polje”. I saw this guys play live couple of times and their shows are energy blasts, so if you have a chance check them out live! This is a very strong debut album. I am personally not great fan of folk punkrock but this is a beautiful and awesome record.

(record review)THE INTERRUPTERS-“Fight the good fight”(Hellcat/Epitaph)

The long wait is over! Los Angeles based ska melodic punks The Interrupters have their third full length album out on mighty HellcatEpitaph! I listened to the album and reviewed it for this webzine.

cover

The album contains 12 songs of melodic punk ska like we are used to listen by this awesome band. Aimee Interrupter and Bivona brothers sound tight and better than ever. Let us browse through some songs that are for me somehow the highlights of this album. “Title Holder”, the single released prior to the album is a catchy anthem to wake you up and give you strength to fight on. “She´s Kerosene” puts up front Aimee´s top vocals, with melodic and singalong chorus which made me dancing all through my room. “Leap of Faith” more of a reggae song about trust and politics, they just don´t come together, do they? “Got Each Other” featuring Rancid as guests is one of the best songs on this album, anthem of friendship, punk, scene and I love it. “Broken World” is also maybe the most awesome song on the record, anthem with the best chorus this band wrote until now. “Gave You Everything” was also released as single, love song or anti love song, depend the way you see it, catchy and memorable tune. “Rumors and Gossip” is a total hymn, dance lift up, dealing with the disease we all know in this scene. The album ends with “Room With a View” the punkrock emotional song about the loss of the loved person we all experienced at least once. This is a great album!
