(record review)WE ARE THE UNION-Self Care

We Are The Union just released their fourth full length album and I listened and reviewed it for this zine.

cover

These guys are from Detroit, Michigan area and they have been around for a while, just launching their fourth full length record out.

The record contains 12 songs. The music is melodic punkrock with skapunk, pop punk and skatepunk parts in the song structures. From the skatepunk fast opening of Post-Ironic Sinkhole this band show us the listeners all the richness of their music style. A Better Home is a ska reggae punkrock anthem filled with brass instruments, punk aggressiveness and melody.

One of the best songs on the album for me is My Death, half a minute acoustic miniature, short but sweet, followed by The Way It Was, full blooded punkrock hymn, when I listen to this song it brings me back under Summer starry sky, having a blast with my friends and enjoying punkrock freedom! There is a guest performance on The Long Way by none other than Stacy Dee of Bad Cop/Bad Cop and she fit in with her voice nicely in this song. Not to discover just everything, you will have to listen to this album and check the other songs and discover your favorites for yourselves. All I can tell you that I had a blast listening to this one!

(record review)VANILLA POD-Goodbye My Love(Horn & Hoof Records)

Vanilla Pod released their swan song, their final record and it is an e.p. Goodbye My Love through Horn & Hoof Records.

Cover 1500

Norfolk, UK legends Vanilla Pod are calling it quits and their final record is an excellent melodic punkrock hardcore release comprised of four songs. The music this band plays, for those who don˙t know is faster paced, melodic punk hardcore with a lot of great melodies, cutting guitar riffs, memorable hooks, harmonic backing vocals and choruses just made for singing along and pumping your punkrock defiant fist in the air hehe. For me, the absolutely best song on this record, there is no doubt is Waster. This record is a nice ending to a great era and we can only thank this band for all the memories, all the great music and I am only sorry that I was not able to see them perform live. But, who knows? Life is strange, maybe one day hehe.

(record review)AUDIO KARATE-e.p.(Wiretap Records)

The first Audio Karate new music in 14 years is out now via Wiretap Records! I listened to this new e.p. and reviewed it for this zine.

cover

The record contains two songs from a “lost” recording session that they did after the release of 2004’s Lady Melody. Now, while they are appearing playing live on tour with Descendants in the USA, these beloved SoCali punkrockers treated us with this record.

Bounce is an uptempo emotional punkrock song that takes us back as a kind of time machine to the time that band recorded it, but the melody, riffs and the excellent vocal lines are equally important today and I can safely say that this song survived the test of time and it is just awesome. The second song called Landing is a bit slower, more of alternative/ indie ballad styled punkrock ballad, listening to this song takes me back on the warm sea shore on a warm night under starred sky. This is a great e.p. Go get your copy!
