(record review)A Pony Named Olga-Ave Maria

A Pony Named Olga have a new album and I listened and reviewed it for this zine.

These three guys are from Germany, Berlin, and they have been around for some time, to be precise since 2004. They play a unique nice combination of psychobilly, cowpunk, punkabilly, polka and dirty rock n roll. Of course, there is a lot of irony and black humor thrown in for good measure. This new studio album contains 14 songs of mayhem, just made for your ass to jump, wreck and dance around. The melodies are just enough not to be too wussy and sweet, and the songs structures are just hard enough to be great to make you full of energy. There are couple of gems on this album that are very worth mentioning in my opinion, those are The Law, the title track Ave Maria and 1941. This album is great, I love every minute of it and just listen and spice up your day with some great music.

(new video)Drones Release Cinematic New Video for ‘Anchors’

d192adad-2ff8-4d8a-9921-384f8b6aace0

London alternative rock / punk group Drones have released a new video ‘Anchors’, the fourth single from their album ‘Exiled’, which was released on Lockjaw Records earlier this year.

According to the United Nations, 1,651,661 refugees have fled their home countries and risked their lives traveling across the Mediterranean Sea to Europe since 2015. At least 14,000 have died or are missing.

These troubling figures inspired Drones to write ‘Anchors’. Their album ‘Exiled’ offers a direct commentary on the current refugee crisis, which Drones have continued in their video for ‘Anchors’.

Following the release of their sophomore record ‘Exiled’ earlier this year, in October Drones released a handful of rarer versions of album tracks: ‘Exiled B-Sides’. The new digital EP includes live versions, acoustic reworkings and an unreleased track.

Drummer, Mitchell Thomas explains: “We’ve been blown away with the response from Exiled and wanted to give a little something extra to those who have been enjoying the record. Exiled: B-Sides features an acoustic rendition of ‘Territories’, as well as live versions of ‘Rorschach’ and ‘Inferno’ that we recorded at the SAE Institute in Amsterdam while on tour last April.”

‘Exiled B-Sides’ is available to download with every physical copy of ‘Exiled’ purchased via the Drones webstore: https://drones.tmstor.es/.
