(record review)The Old Firm Casuals-Holger Danske(Demons Run Amok Entertainment/Pirates Press Records)

Lars Frederiksen is a busy man, besides his work with Rancid, his other projects and production/label work, he found time to record the new record with his The Old Firm Casuals scheduled to come out via Demons Run Amok Entertainment and Pirates Press Records. I listened and reviewed the new record for our zine.

The title of the record is a name of the resistance group who fought the Nazis in occupied Denmark during World War Two. It is personal, as Lars says, dedication to his uncle Viggo who fought the Nazis there. This new record contains 12 songs and is very varied that makes it awesome. There are faster, more straight forward hardcore punk songs like Traitor and Overdose On Sin, Get Out Of Our Way being my favorite faster song on the record. There are almost metalic parts of the song structures like I heard in Thunderbolt. There are weird short instrumentals meaning The Golden Fall pt 1. Of course, the record wouldn˙t be it without the trademark punkrock anthems like Nation On Fire or Zombies which has awesome vocal line melodies, powerful riffs and is for me one of the best songs on the album. Motherland was the single for making a video but in my opinion there are better songs on the album, but I love the pagan themed lyrics in this one. Not to discover just everything, you will have to get this album and listen to it yourself. It is a fine piece of streetpunk hardcore.
