(record review)ISHWARA-Follow The Rabbit

Ishwara, the boys from Venice, Italy are back. Not long ago we reviewed their first e.p. and you can find it here. Now, they released their new record and I listened and reviewed it for our zine.

cover

The new record contains a kinda instrumental introduction to the record and six songs. The music of Ishwara did not change since the last record, but I can surely say that the guys evolved and now sound even better. The music is technical melodic skatepunk with melodic almost Maiden like riffs in some parts of the songs and by gods, these guys can really handle their instruments well. The title song, with the singing and screamed parts, metalic hardcore moshing and melodic skatepunk parts is one of the unsung anthems of modern contemporary skatepunk scene. When I write of this band I am telling you that these guys are gonna be big in the scene one day. Definitely, they are on the right way, although being now only small diy punk band. Live The Perfect Day, A Song For You and others are the hymns for the new generations of melodic punks. And us? The bros and sisters who  were there in the 90-ies, when skatepunk was not so technical and complicated? Well, we love the both sides of the same coin and enjoy every moment.

(record review)BAKTERIJE-Raspad Sistema

Bakterije are longest running hardcore punk band from the north of Croatia, our hometown Čakovec. They recently celebrated 20 years since their first gig and had a record release party for this new album. I reviewed it for our zine.

After they released their last studio effort in 2012.called Dižem svoj glas, I thought that it will be really hard to surpass the greatness of that album, but fortunately I was very wrong.

This new, fourth record is even better. The album contains 16 songs plus instrumental outro. What first comes to mind when the album starts is somewhat darkened and grittier production, which makes the new songs, more serious, more, how should I put it, more darkened although the sound of the band is the same one they perfected throughout all the years, being fast energetic hardcore punk, with ferociousness and melody of streetpunk roots. The lyrics are in Croatian with only two songs in English with classical themes like unity, beers, street prowling, fun, keeping up the fighting, antifascism, but the news are two almost horrorpunk lyrics about serial killer and vampires and that sounds really awesome. The album is very versatile and it makes you listening to the record over and over again wishing it never stops. I don´t really like the albums with too many songs on, but this one is so great, so that is not the problem. Couple of the songs(Mir, Zaboravi me and Kako da živimo) are remakes recorded again to do those songs justice. The musicianship is tight and I think that the guys are now in better form than ever and the vocals with backing gang singalong vox are just superb. Get this one and catch the band live somewhere because they are great live too!
