(record review) TEN FOOT POLE-Escalating Quickly (Thousand Islands Records)

The legends are back! 90-is skatepunk heroes Ten Foot Pole released their first new full length music in 15 years with Thousand Islands Records and I listened and reviewed it for our zine.

cover

Led by Dennis Jagard, the guys released 11 new songs of melodic punkrock/skatepunk that takes me back to the times when I was a younger kid with these guys being all the time on my tape recorder playing their cassette all over again. Judging by the singles that were released prior to the record I knew I will not be disappointed. What I love about these guys is that they managed to recapture the old spirit and vibe, atmosphere with the new record taking old school to the new millenia.  Everything Dies and Don´t Be A Dick we all heard prior to the record, but real jewels lie later like Numb, Victim Of Humility, The Jackals….The mix of faster and slower songs is great on the record, I also love synth(is it synth, keyboard) parts in some song structures like in said The Jackals or The Antidote. Dennis´vocals sound better than ever and the musicianship and new songs are really convincing and crafted to stay with us fans for long time. I would love to see the band play live, I have never witnessed them live before, I am happy that I will get the chance now. Awesome record, probably also a candidate for one of the best melodic punk releases of this year!

(News) San Francisco’s Reunions Debut Video

4493691c-24ce-420b-82dc-0ed956598703

It’s spring time and there’s no better way to spend your day than listening to some really good punk tunes with the windows down. The San Francisco four piece  REUNIONS combine elements of punk and 90’s emo that is reminiscent of bands like Hot Water Music, Leatherface, and Nothington. Winter Heart, Summer Skin is a real power house of an album that’s full of crunchy guitars, driving drums, and no shortage of melodies. The lead single “Light Left On” is currently streaming on all digital platforms and DyingScene.com has the exclusive on the accompanying music video. Take a few minutes to give this jam a listen and enjoy.

WATCH: LIGHT LEFT ON

Bio:

Reunions is one of the least active bands around right now. It’s rare to see their name on a flyer, and you’ll be lucky to catch them playing outside of their home base of San Francisco, CA. They stay busy in their own way though. Outside of their lives as fathers, husbands, artists, and dog dads, they’ve continued to sharpen their already distinct sound.

While their first two EPs were described as an “intense throwback to early 90s emo/hardcore/punk” and “full of life, energy and emotion; raw and unspoiled,” you’ll hear them hit their stride on their first full-length album Winter Heart, Summer Skin.

Written and recorded over the course of almost two years, Reunions refined that careful and dynamic blend of emo, melodic punk, and american rock across these 10 tracks. And although their influences are still clearly present, their approach to songwriting is delightfully straightforward, as if those years in the studio only strengthened their confidence in themselves and their songwriting.

(record review) LOST IN LIFE-B.T.C.O.H.U. (Dead Serious Recordings)

Wow! That is all I can say after listening to the new record by Lost In Life out with Dead Serious Recordings. Read the review and find out more why I love this one so much!

artwort

This band comes from Frankfurt area, Germany, and this new record contains 9 songs. The full title of the record is Beyond The Compass Of Human Understanding. In the days when meaningless metalcore bands rule the land, this one plays hardcore like it was meant to be, with a touch of metal, but staying true to the street punkrock roots. The lyrics are also very good, meaning strong political antifa stance and these songs have head and tails and hardcore kids can relate to that and this band has really something to say. Musically,  there are some NYHC influences, similar to Madball or Agnostic Front, but also there are a lot of Euro hardcore old school influences in the songs with all the energy and deliverance only true hardcore band can provide. The songs are fast forward, with screaming vocals, great choruses, but also there are a lot of moshing parts and catchy metalic guitar melody here and there. I love the joke with the intro song called AnyGivenShitIsOk, but my personal favorite songs on this record are Homesick, Nothing To Me and Days Of Old. Awesome record!
