CJ Ramone, former bass player for the legendary Ramones, built up a cool solo music discography delivering melodic and catchy punkrock. He recently announced that this Europan tour is going to be his last, so it was about time that our sister Irina went to Gala Hala, Ljubljana, Slovenia, to catch up his gig. DeeCracks punkrock band from Austria were playing as a support. Here is the photo report!
Remember Trashed Ambulance from Canada? A while ago we did a review of their record here and an interview with the guys. Now, they have a new release with Thousand Islands Records and I listened and reviewed the record for our zine.
The new record is released also on limited cassette edition so be fast to get it. It contains 6 beautiful melodic punkrock songs, what pleases the most that it sounds more of 90-ies melodic skatepunk, not the metalic technical skatepunk played by most of the newer bands these days, not that I don´t love technical skatepunk, but I prefer this style. The melodies are fine, I love the nice interplay between main vocals and backing vocal harmonies and the mixture of personal serious stuff and humour in the lyrics of the songs. The songs that I somehow dig the most are Open Road, Buy In(excellent song about the scene with super lyrics) and Trash Queen. If you are into honest, melodic, heartwarming punkrock this one is yours and you only need to get it.
Tommy and June are two guys, two musicians, which just released their record with Fat Wreck Chords and I listened and reviewed it for our zine.
The record was produced and released by Fat Mike of Nofx, the owner of Fat, who met the guys while touring with his band and thought that they deserve to be heard and he was right. Tommy is an Israeli musician and June is Colombian Iranian and this music, this record is a proof that music really has no boundaries and no borders. The music of Tommy And June is acoustic, melancholic melodic punkrock with a lot of sadness, lot of personal demons and lyrics that I can sing along, cry along, smile and day dream along. Tommy sings the main vocals and he has an awesome singing melodic voice. June sings harmonies and their voices interplay fantastic. What I love about this record is that the songs are not boring, they are uptempo, lovely and take the listener to some other place on a listening journey. My favorites on this record are Lonely Train, Ghost of Paris, Better Life Story. Those are just some, but all of the songs are just super. Give this one a spin or two and you will se why I love it so much!
