(review) Den!ed-The Darkest Timeline

cover

European punk scene flourishes day by day with so many great bands releasing great records! This time, Den!ed from Belgium released one helluva record. Hailing from Bruxelles, I must admit that I haven˙t heard for them until this one. Here we get 5 songs of excellent melodic punk, filled with energy and above all, melodies that are so great they made my skin crawl with delight. Black Sails and Circle Of Lies are my personal favorites on this e.p. but all of the songs are just absolutely fantastic. It is fast, it is melodic, it is anthemic and just made for listening again and again, and repeat it again. The record stops just in time to make you want more, to make you want full length as soon as possible. Great one!

(book) Dave Mustaine memoir, a life in metal.

This is a wonderful book and I enjoyed every single page. The reading is intense, a real page turner. For those who don´t know that, Dave Mustaine is a metal legend, founder and frontman/guitarist for legendary thrash metal outfit Megadeth, one of the big four in thrash metal. This book is his story, from childhood with abusive alcoholic father and broken home to beginning with Metallica and co-writing the first Metallica album. He got kicked from that band in New York and I recently read Scott Ian from Anthrax book and it was interesting to see how those two saw the same event. Dave swore to avenge on Metallica, so he formed Megadeth, his band and the book is story of all ups and downs, line-up changes, Dave´s ongoing fighting with his drug addiction and alcohol leading him to become a kind of new born christian. It was fun to read about the beef with Jon from Dissection when they got kicked off the festival because Mustaine wouldn´t play with satanic bands on the bill hehe. No matter, this one is exciting read, full on page turner and it has some amazing moments from tour that make you laugh, cringe, sick and above all make you love this band even more. I was fortunate that I saw them twice when they played in our country, once a solo gig in sweaty club which was fantastic and once in a big arena with Slayer which was a bit less fantastic, but great indeed. I recommend this book with all my heart, not only to the fans, but also to the people who love great and exciting books.

(review) The Warriors-Monomyth(Pure Noise Records)

cover

The Warriors released their new full length record with Pure Noise Records and I listened to review it for this zine. What we get on this record are twelve songs of dirty sounding, gritty hardcore with lots of slower, chugging parts, atmospheric, almost apocalyptic sounding. I love the clever use of electronics in The Painful Truth making it sound gloomy and brutal at the same time. The riffs are highly metalized but there are some punkier old school faster parts for example in one of my favorites Iron Mind. The lyrics are deep, almost poetic, but personal, like dealing with your inner self, aggressive and almost wicked, but spiritual at the same time. There are couple of atmospheric sampled instrumentals that serve as an interlude in the whole story, like Death Dancer. The song for which a video was made Death Ritual is also one of my favorites on this record, having great melody underneath the brutality. In all, this is great sounding atmospheric hardcore record.
