(movie) The Wind(1986)

Do you remember eighties direct to video star Wings Hauser? Well, I do. From golden age of my every day crusade to video stores, especially on Fridays and Saturdays, I used to rent all that sci fi vhs movies and also horror cheap, but charming direct to vhs flicks and Wings Hauser starred in quite a few. I somehow missed this one, so it was time for me to correct that error. Meg Foster stars in this one, as a mystery writer Sian Anderson, who travels to distant Greek abandoned village and rents a house there in order to write her new novel and find peace with inspiration through desolate hours and strong winds that rule there. But, she finds out that things are not so peaceful there since Phil(Wings Hauser) also lives in that decrepit village. One night Sian witnesses Phil killing the landlord Elias as he buries him. Phil goes psycho and dangerous cat and mouse game starts right away. The things I like about this movie is the atmosphere of madness and total desolation with that bloody wind sometimes being too irritating and howling around that village. Wings Hauser is fantastic and creepy as psycho Phil but I would love to have heard more about his background story, because the script gives us only glimpses why he is so crazy. Also, there are some discrepancies of stupid behaviour vs real life behaviour by Sian, her husband back in LA and few other characters that appear. The ending of the movie is very bizarre and different from what I used to and left me with a question hanging above my head, was it worth it? Well, yes and no!

Pulley released new single and video from forthcoming new long awaited album!

The time has come! After the last album of the skate punk legends from California came out in 2016, we have been offered an acoustic EP and a vinyl compilation by Pulley at the time of the pandemic – but apparently it always goes more diligent! So, Scott Radinsky and his rascals have just recorded a new album, which will be released already on May 13, 2022!

The first single “Golden Life” matching the album title “The Golden Life” will be released digitally on April 21 to give fans of the former Fat Wreck and Epitaph band a taste of a new album that has it all!

The second single “Lonely” will be released on May 10. The music video is a real treat for nostalgics: we see clips from old Skate Lab videos and pro skaters like Tony Hawk in their heyday. The skate video, which takes us back to the 90s, thus contrasts with the serious and socially critical song usual for Pulley:

“Lonely is a story of different people summed up in 3 minutes. It relates to the experiences of employees through the eyes of observers.” vocalist Scott Radinsky tells us about the song.

“Shady people who hide behind corporate titles and have no idea what it will be like when the reality of their power is over. They live in the fantasy of being on top of the world, giving orders and living with lies that will one day pass away.
The moral of the story is don’t forget who we are and how we treat each other as human beings, keep your feet on the ground.”

Scott Radinsky explains how the new album came about this way, “The writing process for this album was a little different because of the pandemic. When everyone was out of work at the beginning, we decided to write new material, we had a lot of time to devote to the music and were able to flesh out the songs until we felt they were ready.”

In 2021, both an EP of four Pulley classics made into acoustic tracks and the compilation “Encore” were released.

“The difference between this and the acoustic album is that here everyone contributed and the songs were all new, whereas the acoustic album was just a different interpretation of the music that had already been released,” Scott says.

“We’re all proud of how these songs turned out musically and sonically and can’t wait to play them live and share them with everyone.”

(review) One Hidden Frame – I Am Not Here

One Hidden Frame are hailing from Finland and have been around in the scene since 2002. They recently released their sixth full length album and it contains twelve songs of melodic hardcore punk, mainly fast and energetic with some technical skate punk influences here and there reminding a bit of Propagandhi like in awesome Watch Out For Your Head On Your Way Out. But, besides hardcore mayhem there are also some bombastic anthemic choruses like in Run To The Rescue With Love or Information Blackout. I missed them at Punk Rock Holiday although they played three times there, but I can only imagine how powerful these songs sound live, like punk pumping machine of You Are Free To Go. But, besides uplifting melodies, these songs also bring out kind of melancholy in me, like only Finnish bands can, whether in metal or punk, there is sort of melancholy and sadness in music, whether more silent or louder sadness, but it definitely exists. This is a great album, check this one out.
