(review) Scumbag – Scumbag Stomp

Well, it’s been time already. Here is brand new debut opus from Scumbag, new band from Varaždin, Croatia, but its members are veterans playing in other bands and projects. Basically, this is DIY crossover, sounding dirty and raw yet energetic with lots of misanthropy in lyrics and apocalyptic and messages with hate to humanity which I stand behind and like hundred percent. Music is just that, old school mix of hardcore and thrash metal, reminding me a lot of S.O.D. in many parts. Vocalist Darac sounds angry and raw, yet you can understand what he is singing hehe, of course if you are into extreme music like we are, so that is another plus. I can hardly wait to check Scumbag live because this album is all about not giving a fuck about anything and that is what this scene lacks nowadays. Great debut.

(book review) All Ages: Reflections on Straight Edge

Besides being legendary hardcore label, Revelation also released some books. This is the first such book I have read ever, like ten years or more ago, so it was a pleasure to read it again now. Well, this book is basically compilation of interviews with band members, key figures of the straight edge hardcore scene back in the eighties. To name a few interviews I loved, Ray Cappo, Raybeez, Porcell, Mike Judge, Matt Warnke, Hilly Kristal, Walter Schreifels, CIV and many many more. Book is easy to read and there are lots of beautiful photos from back in the days and also gig flyers and what is the best anecdotes and less known facts about some of my favorite hardcore bands. This one was compiled by Beth Lahickey, long time hardcore scene girl and this one is one of my all time recommendations.

(review) Antipathic – Infestation

Antipathic are American-Italian band and this is their fourth opus. These brand new four songs e.p. features brutal death metal mixed with some slamming influences, also some samples in couple of songs and even some melody in guitar work like in my personal favorite which happens to be the title song. Lyrically, band continues where they left off with their last release speaking about inevitable machine take over of the world and end of all humanity. This is not your typical brutal death metal, nor it is boring slam death metal band, this is a quality top notch four songs e.p. with blistering blast beats, moshing parts, thrash influenced fast solos and superb brutal vocalist. So go get it.
