(news – festivals) Time To Rock Festival 2023 – don’t forget about them!

They just want to say hi and hope you don’t forget them at TIME TO ROCK FESTIVAL in southern Sweden. They are usually never included in lists of summer festivals and since they are, after all, a kick ass rock festival since 2006, they hope that before this Summer they can be included in the fine room, together with all the other awesome festivals on your lists.

This year, they’ve also stepped up considerably in terms of bands and band budget, and they’re sitting on a completely world-exclusive trilogy with the legendary Tom G Warrior, who will perform over three days with unique gigs with songs of HELLHAMMERCELTIC FROST and TRIPTYKON. Then they have three punk legends in the form of THE TOY DOLLS, MARKY RAMONE and SHAM 69 and of course classic hard rock and heavy metal in the form of SAXON, BLIND GUARDIAN and MICHAEL SCHENKER mixed with party music with D-A-D, ALESTORM and THE HOOTERS and much, much more.

3 Days – 3 scenes + pre-party on July 7 in scenic Knislinge, 130 km from Malmö/Copenhagen, located along the beautiful Helge River

(movie) The Pale Blue Eye (2022) – good darkened gothic thriller!

When I watched trailers and announcements for this one, I knew this must be a good movie and I was not wrong. Christian Bale leads great actors line-up in this darkened gothic thriller. Bale plays world weary detective Augustus Landor, who is summoned by the army in West Point to investigate the series of gruesome murders. There he finds help of young cadet Edgar Allan Poe(superb Harry Melling – Dudley from Harry Potter serial) who helps him discover dark secrets and uncover the sad and grisly truth about witch hunters, rituals, talk with the dead and the ugly and sad twist at the end of the movie. Besides above mentioned, I must also highlight Gillian Anderson (agent Scully from X-Files) in eerie role of disturbed woman and also Robert Duvall as expert in occult professor Pepe. I don’t know, although this is over two hours long movie, it is not boring for one second and made in nightly darkened tone of gothic like secrets, atmosphere and mood are depressing and sad, from main character to the story itself. Movie is directed by Scott Cooper, known as director of Hostiles, Out Of The Furnace which also featured Christian Bale. Cooper is a co-writer with Louis Bayard and the script is dynamic and well crafted. Murders are grisly and gory, but done in a nice way, so if you are not into gore scenes, do not worry, you will see none of these explicitly in this movie. So, in the end, nice one, but not top of the pops.

(review) Ygør Keim – ‘New Kingdom’

Wow! I can easily imagine this one as a soundtrack for some dark dystopian sci fi movie or some eighties twisted darkened horror movie. Ygør Keim released new album and it contains nine songs. The music is dark. It is industrial. It is punk rock. It is rock. All in one, yet the sum of many parts, sounding cold and unforgiving to us as listeners. Vocals are harsh with effects and I always love clever use of samples. Also, besides shouting and singing, there are whispers, there are screams, like horror movie indeed. There is also some punkish, plain yet effective melody underneath the main themes of the songs. Lyrics and themes deal with horror, cosmic and relentless. Songs and heavy hitters like ‘Undead Creatures’, ‘Sickman’ or ‘The Lowly Servant’ are about to win you over and take you to some other dimension of steel grey sky, cold steel taste on your tongue, machines and hopelessness. This is all very beautiful and for me, I love such music and I am so glad I discovered this hidden gem of the underground scene.
