Here is the third full length opus by Belgium’s CARNATION. This band plays old school death metal mayhem and this opus contains eight songs of carnage done by European school of death metal with chainsaw guitars, almost d-beat drumming and some really nice hooks and melodies thrown here and there among the songs structures. Vocals are brutal but not too brutal, so they fit perfectly to the songs because you can understand some stuff being sung about and you just must feel the energy of this album, how good it is, with almost crusty anthems like excellent ‘Maruta’. There are also clean vocals on ‘Replicant’ which show how varied this band is, not just mere clone of glorious times back in the day. My personal favorites on this death metal gem are epic title song, above mentioned ‘Replicant’ and ‘Metropolis’. Go get this one if you are a fan of Euro old school of death metal with blast beats and crushing brutality, but also melody.
Amongst the Ashes, a Finnish metal band with a Persian twist, have just released their new EP titled Breaking Decency via Inverse Records. The EP consists of three tracks that showcase the band’s diverse and dynamic sound, blending elements of death metal, orchestral music, and Middle Eastern influences. The first track, Vigilance, is an instrumental intro that sets the mood for the EP. Death Cassette is a punk band from Winnipeg, Manitoba that blends elements of grunge and hardcore. The sound is melodic, high energy, and vocally driven and they’ve recently signed to High End Denim Records to release their latest effort – a 6 track EP entitled “Get Rid Of It.”

Here is what the band has to say about “Reflector”: Venting about the smug moral superiority and self-serving hypocrisy, “you’re always so quick to point the finger, just take a look in the mirror.” The lyrics reflect on how much energy can be available to overwhelming individuals. Sousa shouting “Your mouth is open, mind is closed” is an example of snappy combative lyrics related to the tone of the subject matter. This song should be played on maximum volume.
