(gig report)TOTAL CHAOS+ODPISANI+MUŠKAT HAMBURG-Dvorana Gustaf, Maribor, Slovenia

Couple of days after arriving from Punk Rock Holiday, we went to Slovenia again to check out Total Chaos, legendary American streetpunk hardcore veterans on their 30th anniversary tour.

We traveled to Slovenia pretty late, so when we arrived to Maribor, Muškat Hamburg I guess already played because veteran hardcore punk band Odpisani from Slovenia were preparing themselves on stage to begin their set. We already wrote about and interviewed Odpisani on the pages of this zine, so these guys play their vision of oldschool hardcore punk, fast and ferocious, yet melodic and catchy with lyrics in Slovenian dialect spoken in these upper parts of that country. Their circa 45 minute set included all the hits from the band´s more than 20 years career and nicely warmed up all the people for the headliners of the evening. Odpisani really play a lot of gigs last two years, so the band is now tighter than ever, really worth checking out.

This was my third Total Chaos gig in three years, so I knew what to expect. They are celebrating 30 years of the band and play a gigantic world tour this year. Vocalist Rob Chaos is a living legend, his stage persona is really commanding upon the audience to enjoy and cooperate in the gig, so the band gave their best to play their hearts out to the crowd. All the classics were there like Riot City, Squatters Song, Punk No Die, Pledge Of Defiance and after more than an hour, Total Chaos triumphantly ended their set with Lost Boy. I think this was their best gig that I watched until now. The first two times was at the bigger festivals, but Total Chaos in a small club like this one is a must see. After the gig we hung out in front of the club with our Slovenian friends for a while and then we went home, a bit tired, but happy.

(record review) CORE SYSTEM-Contrast

ALBUM_COVER

My story with Core System starts in 2017.when they played their first show here in our hometown. I went to the show to check them out although I knew absolutely nothing about the band, but I knew couple of guys from their former band. At the show, they blew me away with the perfectly played progressive hardcore/metalcore mixed with electronic elements as they presented their debut album Loop.

Now, fast forward two years later and here is the new, second full length record. This record contains 10 new songs that the band developed in the last two years. The title says a lot for itself because the contrast between songs is fantastic, contrast between two vocals, one being almost death metal growl and other is superb melodic clean voice, the riffs, the atmosphere in the songs, just perfect. I love how careful and smart these guys use the electronic elements to their advantage making the songs even more rich and even more listening soundscape for another dimension. I have couple of favorites on the record being Half empty man, Entropy, Crossroads and Question authority. The rolling guitars create melodies not unlike Gothenburg style of death metal, the vocals add to the drama and overall structure. This is not the record that you will listen to one time and then let it rust somewhere collecting dust. No, you will find something new and beautiful on each listening, so go get this one. Book their show and go see their show, because these guys mean business!

Teenage Bottlerocket are releasing a split single with Human Robots!

The split 7” comes out on September 6th, and you can pre-order it today! Additionally, TBR will be tearing it up, headlining the FAT TOUR, which kicks off this month! Check out what Ray Bottlerocket had to say about the 7” and teaming up with his son Milo, below.

“Hello all! When Teenage Bottlerocket was at the Blasting Room working on “Stay Rad,” my son Milo came to the studio and recorded two songs with his band Human Robots. It wasn’t hard getting his band together, because Milo plays all the instruments and sings on the two songs he wrote. I guess it’s a one-man band (yes, he has no friends). His songs turned out great, and we somehow convinced Fat Wreck Chords to release a split 7” featuring the TBR songs “Olivia Goes to Bolivia” and “Everything To Me,” as well as the Human Robots songs “Step On Em All” and “I Want to Hang Out With You.” Chris Shary did the artwork, and it all turned out great. This is the best split since Taco Bell teamed up with KFC! I love sharing this rock n roll life with my son, Milo. Look out world; Human Robots are stoked to shred and ready to party!”
