(record review)BBS Paranoicos-“Delusional”(Pulpa Discos)

South America is filled with undiscovered wonders, meaning tons of excellent bands and labels and nice people. BBS Paranoicos are from Santiago de Chile and they play a mix of melodic punkrock and hardcore and I listened and reviewed their new record out on Pulpa Discos for this webzine.

cover

The record contains 12 songs of excellent melodic hardcore punkrock. If I must compare the music to some bands it would be like Descendents meeting No Use For A Name meaning punkrock with a lot of emotion behind the music. One other thing that I must mention while listening to this record are the vocals. The singer of this band is one of the best, nice, beautiful voices I have ever heard and I heard a lot of them! Excellent melodies, excellent harmonies and songs that don´t get boring throughout the whole album. Unfortunately or luckily, all songs are in Spanish language, so I can˙t understand what they are all about, but nevertheless this is an awesome record that makes me listen to it on repeat over and over again! Top songs in my opinion are: “Insomnio” and “Enemigo Mio”.

(record review)AMUSE-“Shortcuts”(Dodgeball Records)

Punkrock heroes Amuse just released their new album on Dodgeball Records and I consider myself lucky that I listened and reviewed this record for this webzine.

I must admit that I have never heard of Amuse prior to this record so I am stoked that I listened to them and became an instant fan. This record contains 12 songs of excellent melodic punkrock with influences lying in pop punk and Ramones core bands like Teenage Bottlerocket or Screeching Weasel. The vocals are just the way I like it, not too mellow or too harsh. Backing vocals and harmonies are done nicely and the song structures are made to keep the listener˙s attention and are they don´t become boring at all. Mainly, the songs are faster and energetic like for instant the excellent “The Truth Is Out There” but there are also pop punk hitters like “Never Alone”. One of the absolute highlights of this record for me is “Fantasy” with awesome lyrics about punkrock and life. The other highlight is “A New Hopeless” for which the guys made a video which you can watch below being a totally excellent Teenage Bottlerocket like song. This is an awesome record so go get it!

(record review)BABE PATROL-“Rich and Bored e.p.”

Babe Patrol are hailing from NYC and were formed in 2011./2012. In the beginning they were more of a riot girrrl punk but through the years they evolved into more melodic and skatepunk band.

cover

This new e.p. contains four songs. “Breathe” opens up filled with haunting and almost ethereal beautiful voice by the vocalist Jewels. She creates such epic melodies with her voice that made goosebumps on my skin. The record continues even better with “Can´t relax”, song with great ooo singalong chorus and fast energetic punkrock guitar riffs. Just when you think it can˙t get any better “Hide the trail” sweeps you off your feet being in my opinion the best song on this record that makes me wish that I wrote it. “911” closes the e.p. and leaving me desperately wanting more and waiting eagerly for the new full length record. This is one of the finer records that I have listened to lately.
