They´re back! This is the first Satanic Surfers new studio record in 13 long and bloody years!
Swedish skatepunk legends finally treated us mortals with new record and by God it is awesome! I loved every single second of it! The record contains 10 tracks of energetic and melodic pumping skatepunk melodic hardcore. I love Rodrigo´s voice since the early Satanic Surfers/Intensity days and he sounds better than ever! From the fast paced openers “The Usurper” and “Catch my breath” which is one of my favourites on this record we witness tight songwriting. metallic and melodic hooks and changes in song atmosphere but retaining that uplifting fist pumping in the air vibe. “Self medication” is midtempo song to let us rest a while but then the true gems of the record strike! “All gone to shit” and “Ain´t no ripper” are fast melodic anthems and I can´t wait to see and hear these guys live finally, since I missed them back in the days in the 90-ies. In “Madhouse” all Rodrigo´s singing beauty comes out in vocal melody carrying the song. “Going nowhere fast” reminds a lot of old days of second half of the 90-ies when I first heard these guys and their awesome music. “Paying tribute” has some of the harshest and at the same time nicest skatepunk sound that I have heard and great chorus. When I heard “Pato Loco” I considered it a weird metalic technical song, which I guess it is with a lot of solo guitars and not so much lyrics. Last but not least, the title track is an anthem in itself and absolutely one of the best if not the best song on this record! An awesome comeback!
Haven´t seen any good modern newer horror for a while and I thought this one was okay, judging by the story description, so I decided to watch and see what was it all about. It also has one of my all time favorite horror actors Robert Englund starring in it, so the choice was obvious.
The first third of the movie was okay with retired LAPD cop Brett Anderson moving to Sofia, Bulgaria, after the tragic passing of his wife. He decided to take over the job of night watchmen in a peculiar old building in the Bulgarian capitol. As it always happens, strange and bizarre incidents start to happen there and Brett is drawn in an ancient fight between good and evil, our world and the next…Boy, sounds better than it really is. The second and third movie become pretty lame and boring. No gore scenes, no real scares and no atmosphere. When Robert Englund walks to the screen, he kinda saves the situation a bit with his charisma, but not even he can save plainly bad script. The idea used in this movie was already used in legendary The Sentinel and many similar movies afterwards, but it was realized very poorly with ending being so hasty and so somehow unbelievable to the average horror movie viewer that it was just bad to watch it. It is plain all time during the movie that the budget was very low. But, despite the budget, you can make excellent horror movie with a great script. This one was not the case.
