(record review)STELLAR CORPSES-“Hellbound Heart e.p.”(Batcave Records)

Stellar Corpses is a five piece band coming from Santa Cruz, California. They´ve been around for quite a while now and their unique blend of horrorpunk, psychobilly and gothic even metal is a winning combination for me since I first heard them.

cover

This is their new e.p. and it contains five songs.

The title track features a guest being none other than Jimmy Calabrese of the horrorpunk legendary brothers trio Calabrese. This song is a powerhouse and new anthem for the live gigs and singalongs. For me the best song and my absolute favourite of the record that´s been on repeat a lot is “She´ll Claw Your Eyes Out”, the melody of that one sticked to me for days and nights after hearing thie record. The opening melody of “Darkside of the American Dream” is so haunting that leaves you daydreaming for the night and darkness. “Cruel and Unusual” is a rockabilly and gothabilly inspired horrorpunk anthem and I literally saw lightning bolting from my stereo speakers while listening to this little song. I just love dark romance and drama which is a standard in horrorpunk, so “In Her Lover´s Arms” was just right for me to imagine my dying bride. This e.p. is excellent!

(record review)SUN-0-BATHERS-“Local Warming ep”(Morning Wood Records/Melodic Punk Style/Bearded Punk Records/Thousand Islands Records

Sun-0-Bathers are fast punkrcok from Leeuwarden, Netherlands. This band is new to the scene being founded in 2017. I am really glad being able to review this, their debut e.p. in my webzine.

cover

The record contains 5 tracks plus intro/outro.

After the nice intro, the mayhem starts. This is just the music that I love. Fast, old school skatepunk hardcore with a lot of old school nineties influences. The only thing that bothered me somehow are the vocals sounding somewhat muffled and low and partly unrecognizable in some parts. These guys play their shit with heart, with soul and minds in the right place and this is an awesome release for the debut e.p. I just imagine how the full length with fresh material will sound, certainly more better than this. For me the best song on this record is for sure “Need Some More” with old school Circle Jerks vibe that made me nostalgic. I also loved an hommage to legendary Scott Radinsky. If I must compare, these guys reminded me a bit of old Spermbirds, being rowdy, but fresh and made for moshing and pogoing and going wild with other sweaty kids in the pit next to you.
