Not Scientists are coming from France, Lyon area and are relatively new band in the scene but the members gathered enough experience in their older bands prior to deciding to form this one.
The new album contains 10 songs of epic and beautiful melodic pop punk played with heart and soul. It is hard to stay untouched by warm beauty of the first single “Perfect World” for which the guys made a video that you can watch below in this article. There are some emo influences that I heard in “Sky on Fire” and listening to that song made me think of warm Sun carressing my face and warm breeze hugging me in the meadow somewhere. I dont know if the guys from the band meant it, but this album has such positive and nice energy surrounding me when I listened to it, that I got goosebumps on my skin still while writing this review. “Orientation” is a bit faster song made for dancing through the room and humming along. But, it would not be right if I revealed just everything. You will just have to get and listen to this awesome album. If you are a fan of similar music, you wont regret it.
The underground scene gives us many opportunities to find out about new bands and meet new great friends. This time I reviewed the new record by The Lost End.
The Lost End are a quartet from Norman, Oklahoma, USA. The guys are playing post punk with some melodic punk and psychodelic influences. The album contains 7 songs and it is quite enjoyable music to listen to. For me personally the music of The Lost End sounds like a hybrid kid between The Menzingers and Joy Division and during the birth of this child the assistants were The Cure and Nick Cave. You can expect some darker tones of music in the song structures and some psychodelia overtones which I dont like very much but they are here few and far between so it is okay. The songs are not too long and not too short, and they are in no way boring as some bands of that subgenre are. These guys managed to keep a great bit of originality in their music and this album was fun to listen to. Top song: “Signs that guide”.
When I first heard about A Vulture Wake I knew that this will be an awesome record. Bird Attack Records has done a great job releasing this and it is time to sit back, listen and review this baby.
We wont be wrong if we say that A Vulture Wake is a kind of punk supergroup. Formed in 2016. the band features the current or former members of All, Drag the River, Lagwagon, RKL, Good Riddance, Real McKenzies and The Mag Seven. The record is very strong for a debut album. It contains 10 songs of melodic punk with some hardcore influences. The songs are very technical and these guys know how to play their instruments with all their experience on the scene. For me the overall vibe of the album was somehow sad and somber which is good and in some weird way that reminded me of No Use For A Name. Not musically, no way, but in the vibe and maybe the lyrics too. I dont have the lyric sheet or booklet but I can follow the lyrics good enough while listening that I know that it is a fine mix of political and personal with more weight given to the personal side. It is very hard to name some highlight songs from the album but for me it would be “Circle of Friends” and “Secrets”. Great album!
