After a 10 year break, The Idoru came back strong 2020 with their original lineup and a new 3 song EP…The history of the band goes back to 2003, since then they played several headliner tours through Europe, Japan, as well as joined tours with other bands such as “Ignite” (Japan) and the legendary punk band Misfits on a few of their European tours. Since the start, the IDORU have released 4 albums and a few EPs.

The Idoru is a post-hardcore band from, Budapest, Hungary. The group was formed in 2003 by ex-members of the Hungarian hardcore band, Newborn. The band quickly stood up and started to play several gigs in their local area, and soon after, several shows abroad. Spending their first year to establish a base for further actions, they realized that it was time for them to make their first recording. In the fall of this year, they started the recording, and on a New Year’s Eve live appearance of the band, the mcd entitled After the Storm (EP) came to life. This three-song debut was the product of the collaboration between the guys and legendary Japanese record label Alliance-Trax. The collaboration turned out well which resulted in their debut album titled Brand New Way, Brand New Situation (album) was recorded in late 2004. In the fall of 2004 the band joined the rooster of the successful uprising Austrian label Burning Season Records, and the full-length album was released in February 2005. In 2005 after recording their 3rd record Hopeless Illusions EP, they decided to leave Burning Season Records to join Deadbutcher Records. (review) Mutabor – Rebel

Mutabor are from Berlin, Germany. This is their latest full length album. I must admit that I never heard about these guys prior to listening to this record. What do we have here? Here we have 13 songs of mixture consisting of ska punk rock, folk influences, some thirties, almost cabaret vibes in some songs, melody and uplifting atmosphere topped with lyrics in German language. I also forgot pop punk influenced song parts and even ballads. Sounds interesting? It was interesting, but somehow it got through me without really touching me of leaving a mark upon my heart and mind. It is okay, listenable but somehow it got boring after four of five songs, becoming too mellow and too poppy even for my broad imagination, being somehow long and I just waited to end. This album is ideal while listening to doing something else like wiping dust and cleaning your lair a bit on a Saturday early afternoon. Maybe it was just me, but this just isn´t a record that got to me.

(review) Weezer – SZNZ: Spring e.p.

Weezer released new e.p., imagined as first in the series of four e.p.-s and it contains 7 songs and it is done in recognizable Weezer style, mixing melodic pop punk, indie and college rock and it is thematically connected from the beginning to an end. Although this band is a bit more commercial than your usual melodic punk rock or pop punk, I always loved their style and catchiness that they brought in their songwriting. This one is no exception, songs like Angels On Vacation, All This Love or Wild At Heart are poppy punk rock renditions of classic music with a touch of melancholy, fine vocal melodies, backing vocal lines, totally catchy choruses and simply written fine and diverse, like watching a theatre Shakespearean show through music and living a drama play. And what is life than drama play? Today you are here, tomorrow there is no more of you. So, live it up the best you can. Nice one.
