(record review)TWENTY2-Nice Knowin Ya(Morning Wood Records/New School Records)

After more than ten year hiatus Twenty2 released the new ep via Morning Wood Records (Europe) and New School Records(USA/Canada). I consider myself lucky being able to listen and review this record for our zine.

cover

Coming from Montreal, Canada, Twenty2 have been active from 1997.until 2007. In 2013.they regrouped and slowly started to work on the new material and here it is. This record contains 6 songs of melodic punkrock/skate punk with great melodies, uplifting guitar hooks and anthemic choruses made for you to pogo, love, dance and sing along. If I must compare the music to some bands, it would be like my favorite No Use For A Name crosses paths with Good Riddance(another of my favorite bands) and here it is! There are some guest performances by Stephen Edgerton(The Descendents) on I´d rather die which is my favorite song on the record, totally reminding me of NUFAN and Tony Sly´s songwriting style. There is also a guest performance by  Al Nolan from The Almighty Trigger Happy. This is not fast, hardcore stuff, this is punkrock with emotions and heart to back it up. Great stuff!

(news)REVEREND HORTON HEAT UNVEIL “HOG TYIN’ WOMAN” New Album Whole New Life Coming November 30 TV Appearance Announced On Tour Now

REVEREND HORTON HEAT have released another barnstormer with the new single “Hog Tyin’ Woman,” from the upcoming collection Whole New Life, available worldwide November 30, 2018. On December 7, fans of the NBC thriller Midnight, Texas can tune in to see REVEREND HORTON HEAT perform “Hog Tyin’ Woman” on the hit show.

“Hog Tyin’ Woman” Now Playing @ Guitar World.

“I love her so much she’s got a rope around me,” admits crooner Jim ‘Reverend’ Heath. That wryly fits the theme of REVEREND HORTON HEAT’s twangy chord strumming and doo-wop drumming of ‘Hog Tyin’ Woman.’ Heath bucks up and confronts his love of the road and the love of his woman, adding “Even though this tune is a crazy little romp seemingly about bondage, it’s really just an ‘I’m true to you’ love song. It has that fun, yet psychotic vocal uttering, and a bluesy yet desperate guitar.”

This weekend the band closes their six night “Revidency” at Austin’s famed Continental Club, and the Texan titans officially kick off their first leg behind Whole New Life on November 27 in Omaha, NE before wrapping up the year in Birmingham, AL on December 22. As more riotous shows are booked for 2019, Heath quips, “I’m afraid I’m on the Willie Nelson retirement program, which means I’ll never retire.”

(record review)Scarboro-Wolves on the radio(WTF records)

We already featured Scarboro in an recent interview on the pages of this zine. Now is the time for me to listen and review their new record out on WTF records for this zine.

SCARBORO HR

Scarboro are from Brooklyn, New York, but apart from the other bands on the NYHC scene, this band is leaning more towards punkrock side of things. This record contains 5 songs. When you listen to this band, you have to take the raw and untamed energy of Black Flag, emotional and larger than life melody of Descendents, mix it with both feet standing firmly inside New York hardcore history and legacy and you get the music of this band. I love this record. Of course, everyone of us always finds some of song favorites on the records we listen, so mine are the title song and Another Day. The vocals are just right, melodic but enough harsh to pass as hardcore vocals and the musicianship and the sound of the record is in my opinion great. I would like very much to hear the full length record in the future. Awesome!
