(movie time)THE OLD DARK HOUSE(1932.)dir:James Whale

olddarkhouse

This Universal vintage horror thriller gem was produced by famous horror producer of that time Carl Laemmle and directed by none other than James Whale, known for directing Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein among other legendary movies.

On a hellish stormy night, six individuals get stranded in the middle of nowhere. Luckily for them, they stumble upon old dark house. There are couple of bizarre tennants there, old man and his sister, mad dumb butler Morgan and little by little, as the night drags on, all the secrets and the skeletons from the closet start to unravel.

Now, with all respect to modern horror, they just cannot make such atmosphere as in those old gems of the genre. Constant howl of the wind, rain, darkness and excellent acting led by the legend himself, Boris Karloff, best known as the Frankensteins monster, here playing scarred and half mad dumb butler Morgan. If you are looking for special effects , you wont find any in this one, but you will find excellent and twisted story based on the J.B. Priestley novel that I had not read, so I cant compare the movie and the book. If there existed a school subject called horror, I am sure that they would show this one as one of the examples during classes.

Hailing from Berlin, Germany, thrash metal unit Exxperior have published a video for the track “A Christmas Carol”, a metal musical taken off the band’s Christmas EP, “From Weird to Magical”, released on December 2016.

The story of “A Christmas Carol” is based on a novel by Charles Dickens, first published in London by Chapman & Hall on 19 December 1843. Guest Vocals of First Aid, Reactory, Bloodbeat and Speedwhore are representing
different characters of the well-known tale. The song takes about nine minutes creating an explosive musical experience with the similarity of bands like Alice Cooper and Savatage – but the thrash metal way!

(record review)THE REGENT-“Political Fiction”(Melodic Punk Style)

Believe  it or not, Norway is not only black metal country, THE REGENT are living proof that there are excellent bands there apart from black metal for which Norway is known for.

cover

The Regent just released their debut record called “Political Fiction” on Melodic Punk Style and it consists of 8 songs. They play melodic skatepunk hardcore with a very technical and skillfull edge, it is very evident that these guys really handle their intruments well. In my opinion, they reminded me on Propagandhi, being very political and straightforward which is a good thing lyrically.

The music is very energetic, the song structures are made of many interesting parts that hold your ears locked on listening the whole time this album plays.

If you like your punk hardcore melodic, energetic, well played and with excellent political lyrics, get this record!

8/10
