The Slums from Canada and Bad Taste from France recently released split record with PCT Musique and I listened and reviewed it for this zine.

Both bands are represented with four new songs on this record. The Slums from Canada play a bit dirty, gritty punkrock ska which I love very much. It is melodic, energetic, yet not overly polished and produced as some bands are. You can feel the spirit behind the music and that is unfortunately not the case with many bands in nowadays scene. The Crow is definitely the best song on their side of the record in my opinion. If you are into nice dirty melodic ska punk, go grab this one and enjoy. Bad Taste are coming from France and they play melodic, but also gritty and harsher version of punkrock and I also love their side of the record and it is a bit better musically for my taste than The Slums side, but vocals are a bit too snotty for me, but excellent music covers vocals hehe. Don´t get me wrong, riffs are catchy, choruses are beautiful, so do not miss this one. Best song of this side: So Far So Good.

(record review) BAT!-Bat Music For Bat People(Cleopatra Records)

BAT! are new psychobilly supergroup of vigilantes with members of Nekromantix, Stellar Corpses, The Brains, Rezurex. This is their debut album out with Cleopatra Records and I listened and reviewed it for our zine.

folder

The album contains 15 new songs plus 5 covers. The music of Bat! can be categorized as an amalgamation, Frankenstein´s monster made of members´experiences and the music they listen to and play with their bands. That means beautiful dark and melodic psychobilly with a lot of horrorpunk and doo wop influences. This music fits totally to the story around the band, the story of three vigilantes from darkness. I love every single minute of this record. A lot of singalong choruses, anthemic melodies, faster and slower songs which take you to the dark city streets and you feel safe and a bit scared knowing that the vigilantes lurk somewhere nearby. The record also features guest appearences by Jyrki 69 and Danny B.Harvey. Among covers, Danzig´s Mother somehow works best for me, because Bat! gave that song a new spirit with their version. Recommended songs: Villain, Revente of the Batmask, We Own The Night.

(record review) COMRADES-For we are not yet, we are only becoming(Facedown Records)

Comrades released new full length record with Facedown Records and I listened and reviewed the record for our zine.

Comrades

This band is basically two people operation, consisting of Joe and Laura McElroy. They started playing in Virginia back in 2008.under different band name, but now they are Colorado based band. This new record contains  10 beautiful songs. The music can be categorized as noisy hardcore with emo and punkrock influences. The opener Fault Lines just blew me away with the atmosphere and superb interplay between Laura´s melodic and Joe´s screaming harsh vocals, with guitars creating haunting melodies backed with rolling thunderous drums. Throughout the whole album, some haunting and mystique atmosphere like fog drifting slowly through the landscape surrounds me as a listened with Cliff Dwelling being one of my favorites which takes me sonically really to some other dimension. Goosebumps arose on my skin listening to this record. No Past is also one of my favorites on the record being somehow the heaviest song. Hollow Point is another recommended song with catchy yet simple guitar melody and harsh vocals. Lyrically this band goes into more personal waters, I don´t have a lyric sheet, but as I understand this is a band with lyrics to which I can relate to, also I can battle my inner demons while listening to this wonderful music. Check this one out, it is a keeper!
