Joey Cape’s brand new album, Let Me Know When You Give Up, is available for pre-order now! Out on Friday, July 5th, Cape’s latest effort is, conceptually, about giving up a losing fight. Even more so, it’s about quality of life, and abstaining from the madness that encircles our daily lives. Joey Cape produced the album, and it features contributions from Brian Wahlstrom (Scorpios/Gods Of Mount Olympus), Asher Simon, Neil Hennessy (The Lawrence Arms), Matt Riddle (No Use For A Name), and Zach Quinn (Pears).

The lead track, “I Know How To Run,” is a song Cape wrote about the current social debate and its divisive nature. “People seem more concerned with argument than the outcome,” he says. “The unwinnable fight defines some, but you don’t necessarily have to stay and fight. Leaving the conversation is a viable option. As a last resort, you can always run, figuratively or literally.”

Joey Cape will be touring Europe this summer and you can view those dates here!

(record review)STOJ SNAK/SPEED DINOSAURS-Mass Extinction split(TNS Records/5FeetUnder Records)

Wow! I just listened and reviewed for our zine the new Stoj Snak and Speed Dinosaurs Mass Extinction split that will be out in April via TNS Records and I love what I heard, so read it and order your copy!

Stoj Snak are folk punk band from Denmark and I must admit that I have never listened to their music prior to this release and now I am glad that I have. Their side of this record offers 3 songs of very melodic, sometimes pretty fast and energetic folk punk with nice vocals, beautiful melodic lines and harmonic backing vocals, I love it. For me their best song on this side of the record is Drink From The Well. Great!

Speed Dinosaurs call themselves ukulele punk and are coming from Leeds area, UK. Their side of the record also offers 3 songs of acoustic punk, a bit less melodic and different than their Danish mates, but also melodic, I can´t help myself, but I felt happy and smiling when I listened to this music. Love the upright bass, reminds of psychobilly bands a lot. Although, Speed Dinosaurs music is great, but I love Stoj Snak side of the record a bit more. The best song on this side of the record is The Biggest Mass Extiction. Cool music and cool record.

(record review)BRIGHTR-Two Sides(NoReason Records/Penultimate Records)

Brightr is in fact Laurie Cottingham and he expresses himself by playing great acoustic emotional punk. I listened and reviewed the new record that comes out in April with NoReason Records and Penultimate Records.

This six song e.p. is a follow up to the album from 2016.and this time Brightr once again joined forces with Matt O´Grady as the producer for this record and they created melodic and emotional soundscape of acoustic emotional punk. Lyrically, themes vary from growing up, memories good and bad, relationships and being happy in contrast with being sad and lonely. These songs serve along with the music as some kind of vent, some kind of release for me and I felt real catharsis after the songs finished. I love how the melodic and calm voice of Brightr can arouse such emotions in me followed only with acoustic guitar and couple of harmonies. I would love to see and listen this music live. Recommended songs: Bergerac, Mark Strong.
