Hans Roofthooft is known in the punk scene as the singer of F.O.D. but also as solo musican delivering great music. I listened and reviewed for our zine his new solo record out via Morning Wood Records.
The album contains 15 songs in now recognizable Hans´style being a mixture of acoustic and standard instruments played melodic punkrock. There are almost folk punk influenced songs, at least they sounded to me like that for example in Misses Moody. One of the highlights of the album for me is sad trumpet and the sad vibe of Apprentice. The lyrics of the songs are personal and pretty mournful but still give hope for better tomorrow to me, the listener. Prudence and Passion has one of the sweetest backing vocal harmonies that I have listened in a long time. Almost pop dreamy melody of Nothing Like The Sun made me go out and feel the warmth of the Sun on my cheek. Beautiful. New York is also one of the most beautiful songs on this album for me, I listened to it over and over again. But, not to reveal every song to you, my hungry reader and eager music lover, you will have to listen to the album and find out the other beauties for yourself. Awesome record!
Wow! That is only thing I can say after listening to the new Fat Bastard record! Read the review in our zine!
Hailing from Belgium, Antwerp area these guys have been in the scene for a while and this is their new e.p. The music of Fat Bastard is not rocket science, it is nothing new, but they do it with style and passion that makes your heart dance in the chest. The energy this band provides on this record is incredible. Fat Bastard play Motorhead like punk n roll with dirty, but still melodic greasy riffs, guitar hooks, great vocals and awesome song structures. Yet, the guys managed to retain that original, primal rock lust for life and energy that makes this record so good. The record contains 7 songs and in my opinion, for me the best on this record are Dead Man Charlene, Blood Sweat and Beer and Dead Man Walking. Check this one out, you won´t regret it!
Coldstare have a new album out on WTF Records and I am proud that I was able to listen and review their new record for this zine.
Coldstare are coming from Belgium and they were formed in 2001. The band went on hiatus in 2008.but was reformed in 2015. to become once again a significant force on the European hardcore map. This new album has 10 songs. The music is typical European school of hardcore that has more roots in streetpunk and oi scene than in metal, and it is good so. There are some NYHC influences like AF, early Madball, SOIA but the band has that touch of Right Direction, Only Attitude Counts and similar Euro HC bands have in their music. There are faster old school songs but also some groovy moshing parts making the songs nice piece of modern hardcore that many bands lack nowadays. My favorite songs on this record are Time to prove and Side by Side, true hardcore anthems. This is a great hardcore record!
