La Moxie are from Birmingham and they have a new record e.p. out with Real Ghost Records. there are six songs on this one. The quartet plays their vision of melodic punk, leaning more on pop punk and emotional side of things than on straightforward skatepunk charge. They remind me of Bambix a bit and Baby Gopal maybe with a bit of Tilt thrown in here and there. The music is harsh enough with great punkrock riffs to satisfy the hungry punk in you, but also Lauren´s great voice makes melancholic and kinda sad vibe to the songs. I listen this e.p. during daylight and on a warm and sunny Spring day in April, but it still makes me somehow sad and dreamy, the music of La Moxie takes me to other places with their soundscape. Recommended songs: No U, A Song For Charlotte.

ABOUT THE SONG AND VIDEO:
Lauren (vocals/guitar): “If I Fall is my interpretation of the battle I have in my head which comes with being in love whilst having a mental illness. This song means crazy loads to me because Alexei sings all the backing vocals and I wrote it when I felt like I was pushing him away.
“We DIYd the video in our practice space. We used a 5 year old iPhone taped to a mic stand and edited on a 5 year old Android phone for balance. We love how it turned out and feel it represents the 4 of us perfectly in both personality and collective bank balances.”
ABOUT LA MOXIE
“We are Lauren (singing and guitar) Nathaniel (drums and enthusiasm) Alexei (guitar and cynicism) and Ryan (bass and gratuitous hair metal intro speeches). We’re from Birmingham and would self describe as skate punk. Tho we’d shrug and agree with emopunk or poppunk and honestly, Lauren’s the only one who skates. We’ve only been doing this since last summer and we’ve been lucky enough to play with The Bombpops, Petrol Girls, The Creepshow and Nervus.”

Second full length album of Birmingham veteran skatepunks Laughing In The Face Of comes with Lockjaw Records. Silly me, I must admit I didn`t know about this band prior to this record, but here I am, correcting that mistake. These 12 songs deliver melodic hardcore punch, done with conviction and experience. This band mixes nod of respect to the old school nineties skatepunk on which we all grew up, yet making it accessible and more technical for the new millenia, doing catchy but complex song structures, almost thrash metal riffs in some parts, I can also hear some nwobhm Maiden riffing in some song structures, topping it off with great vocals, sometimes gang singalong backing vocals and fantastic harmonies that make my skin crawl with joy. This is a beautiful album for all of you who are fans of bands like The Human Project, Fair Do˙s and similar bands. For me, the best songs: The Regression Session, Bullshit With A Smile, The Insane Continue.
