(review) Revirgin – Moderna Rješenja

Revirgin were already featured on the pages of this zine. This duo comes from my hometown of Čakovec and this is their new album containing twelve songs, all songs this time in Croatian language. According to the band, these bunch of songs were already written a year ago and recorded this year. Revirgin play their vision of prog art rock mixed with synth pop, synth rock and I love how they create that eerie and a bit bizarre melodies in their song structures with Karlo’s voice being kind of similar to David Byrne of Talking Heads. The last album couldn’t escape the comparison with that legendary band, but this one also has some domestic influences like Azra or EKV, maybe it is only me hearing it, but I hear it in the song structures. I recently watched them play live and they did an awesome show with couple of old ones and mainly songs from this album. Lyrics are personal, read between the lines, allegoric and different than most of the bands out there right now. My personal favorites on this album are ‘Egzodus ’97’, ‘Dobro za građene’, the title song, but you must check out the album as a whole to get the full picture. Revirgin makes albums that make you hear something new every time you listen to them, so go for it!

Dead Dog Summer: Croatian post-hardcore trio released new song – A Place Of Someday!

Croatian Dead Dog Summer is a post-hardcore band from Cakovec formed in late 2020 and “A Place Of Someday” is their second single from the upcoming album that is planned to be released in spring of 2022 as digital and vinyl.

Band was formed last year but the whole idea of new songs and new band was in their heads for a long time, as members of the band were active in the scene during first decade of the 00-ies playing in bands like Nikad, The Farewell Reason, Senata Fox, Implicite and many others. Band members are: Igor Bistrovic (guitars/vocals), Kreso Zerjav (bass, vocals) and Boris Strahija (drums).

“A Place Of Someday is a song about procrastination, this band was something I procrastinate for a long time, I was writing music, recording, playing music for a long time in my home studio and was always thinking, when I do that, then I will play in a band, I will form a band when I finish that etc. So A Place Of Someday is a place where you will never be if you don’ t start today and start by your self, nobody will do nothing for you, nobody will come and save you so that is why we started this band during the pandemic and lockdown in Croatia.” says Igor Bistrovic.

When we try to describe the music of Dead Dog Summer it would be easiest to say it is some kind of hardcore that was played in late 90-ies (they used to call it emo or screamo those days). Their sound is a combination of sparkly and heavy guitars, screaming and singing vocals and tight performance of rhythm section.

A Place Of Someday is available now on all streaming services.

Dead Dog Summer – new band on Croatian punk/hardcore scene

New Croatian band Dead Dog Summer presents their first single “A Wish (All About Me)” which announces their debut album planned for the beginning of next year.

Dead Dog Summer is a new name on the Croatian punk / hardcore scene and members of the band are Igor Bistrovic (guitar, vocals), Kreso Zerjav (bass, vocals) and Boris Strahija (drums).

Members of the band has been active on the scene for over 25 years in bands like The Farewell Reason, Nikad, Senate Fox, Implicite, Youth Against and many others.

The band was formed in late 2020 but the idea of a new band has been brewing in their minds for a long time so the pandemic and lockdown were a great time to spend some time and work on what they love most, making music and playing.

If we describe the music of Dead Dog Summer, it would be easiest to tell that it is post hardcore as it was played in the late 90’s and the name represents “dog heat” that has been cooking in the rehearsal room for the last year since the boys created their debut album.

The band recorded the complete material in their own studio while mixing was done by Filip Sertić from Depth studio.
