(review) Damn City – ‘Get Up’ (Too Loud Records)

Damn City are hailing from Bologna area, Italy and this is their new three song EP. This EP is dedicated to Bob Marley with title song being cover of Marley’s powerful anthem and done in crossover, mixture of rap and hardcore way. This new rendition made this old school fight anthem more powerful and street vibe smart, mixing reggae with hardcore and rap. ‘Skorpio Haze’ is more of a rap song with more electronica in the song structure and less guitar oriented, but sounding at the same time powerful and cleverly using samples and sounding street smart and mystical at the same time. ‘Gli Occhi Della Sfinge’ is a remix sounding powerful and this little release is the choice if you are into this kind of music.

(review) Scumbag – Scumbag Stomp

Well, it’s been time already. Here is brand new debut opus from Scumbag, new band from Varaždin, Croatia, but its members are veterans playing in other bands and projects. Basically, this is DIY crossover, sounding dirty and raw yet energetic with lots of misanthropy in lyrics and apocalyptic and messages with hate to humanity which I stand behind and like hundred percent. Music is just that, old school mix of hardcore and thrash metal, reminding me a lot of S.O.D. in many parts. Vocalist Darac sounds angry and raw, yet you can understand what he is singing hehe, of course if you are into extreme music like we are, so that is another plus. I can hardly wait to check Scumbag live because this album is all about not giving a fuck about anything and that is what this scene lacks nowadays. Great debut.

(review) Sarnghera? – Dr. Vanderlei:tales from the lake vol 1

Sarneghera? are another band coming from mighty Italian underground scene. This is their new e.p. containing 4 songs. The music of this band is hard to describe. It is basically hardcore in its roots, but it also has many prog elements carefully mixed with melody and post core here and there, with also some metal/crossover outbreaks as a surprise. The lyrics are interesting and original because they are a mix of English, Italian, Spanish, French, Latin and ancient Greek and reborn in a new language called Smoothiesh. There are some fast hardcore punk parts quickly evolving into cold melody of space and than back again into anger and despair. Vocals are at times screaming angry, but most of the times they are sung melodic, but not in a snotty annoying way, but good. This is maybe a bit pretencious, but great and original hardcore opus.
