The man behind Nobody, Tuomas Kauppinen comments the single:
“Saint Devil in the Fields is a rocking jingle-jangle of desolation and megalomania, a singular crooked figure in a field sown with hateful thoughts. It shadows the steps of the by-passer, luring them to doom with whispers of eloquence and promises of total power. It draws blood from the cattle, snatches children at nights and makes the dogs crazy with rabies. And yet during full moon it is worshiped by dozens of villagers, engaging in rites of unspeakable horror to worship their Dark Lord. This is their soundtrack.”

Line-up:

Tuomas Kauppinen – vocals, guitars, bass & drums

(review) Heilung – Drif (Season of Mist)

New opus by Heilung is here. Heilung is international band project with members from Denmark, Germany, Norway…and they are something special and different from other similar acts. For starters, Heilung means healing and their music is just that. They heal with their mixture of darkened shamanic Nordic folk, Carpathian ethno music, world darkened folk music, warrior shamanic ritualistic chanting topped with Maria Franz’s almost ethereal beautiful voice. Also, their songs are in ancient languages and the instruments they play on, besides some electronics are done by themselves from bones, wood and all their atmosphere and melodies take you as a listener to some other world. Their opuses are getting better and more powerful as time passes. If you did not go, I strongly recommend their live rituals, because only if you open your mind and get into it, like phenomenal Lifa ritual which you can see on Youtube in full, will bring relief, tears, anger, warrior pride, and above all connection with spiritual in yourself. My personal favorites on this opus are: Tenet, Keltentrauer and Marduk. Excellent.

(review) Dark Wooden Cell – Undying stories of a fallen world

a2732105958_10

Since I was a kid growing up like twenty five or thirty years ago, I have always loved hard and extreme music, metal and hardcore was my choice. You know, when you are a defiant outlaw kid, all other music and listening to other music is considered poser and treason. But, now when I am closer to forty five years than forty, I learned to enjoy other dark music and one of the genres is also dark folk. Dark Wooden Cell are hailing from Tours area, France. This entity is comprised of two individuals, namely Mike Gory (guitar-vocals) and Bruno Marmiroli (sax/trombone). This is their sophomore album containing nine songs. The music is dark folk with neo folk and even blues influences in the song structures with rich and darkened Mike´s voice carrying us listeners through the apocalypse and ghosts that roam our surroundings and other soundscapes bringing us kind of catharsis of a darkened heart after listening to the record as a whole. Songs are orchestrated in pairs offering a unique concept and aural journey. Acoustic guitar and sax in some songs, trombone in some add to the overall melancholic feeling prevailing through the whole album. My personal favorites are: The radio, The night. If you are a fan of such music, go grab this one.
