Abysmal Dawn, death metal giants from Los Angeles are back with new e.p. with Season of Mist. This new opus contains four songs, two of them being their own, two being covers by In Flames and Candlemass. What I love about this band is how they manage to balance between technical super played death metal, brutality, aggression and melody in many guitar solos, themes and atmospheric parts, making them combination of best parts of European and American schools of death metal. Symphonic, almost orchestral parts are perfect calm in the storm of carnage and groove combined with blast beats. Vocals are brutal growled, but you can understand what is being sung, so that is another plus for this special band. Covers are great, but real value of this e.p. are two songs by Abysmal Dawn, so go get it and give it a spin or two.

Peter Tagtgren je legenda. Svi njegovi bendovi i projekti, sva produkcija sa Abyss studiom, sve što je napravio meni je odlično. Njegov glavni bend Hypocrisy je nedavno izdao novi trinaesti dugosvirajući opus, osam godina nakon zadnjeg. Što imamo ovdje? 11 pjesama odličnog melodičnog švedskog death metala, sa podosta agresije i brzine i sporijih atmosferičnijih stvari gdje se na cijelom albumu ističu odlične gitarske melodije, kao i fenomenalno bubnjanje Horgha, poznatog kao i bubnjara Immortal, on je meni jedan od najdražih bubnjara na sceni ikada. Peterovo pjevanje je opet raznoliko, od growlova koji se razumije u dosta slučaja što pjeva, preko black vokala do predivnih clean, melodičnih dionica. Basist Mikael Hedlund grmi u svojim dionicama podebljavajući kvalitetu odlično napisanih pjesama. Tematski, album se opet bavi cyber svijetom, zavjerama, alienima, UFO-ima i sličnim veselim temama koje ovaj bend analizira u svojim tekstovima već desetljećima. Ovo nije najbolji Hypocrisy album, ali je definitivno u top 5, barem meni.
