(review) Flesh Roxon – Songs Of Darkness

Flesh Roxon are back with new album and whole new horror. Hailing from the north, Tampere, Finland to be exact this band always somehow was different in my eyes and ears than the rest with their combination of horror punk, rock n roll and influences of psychobilly, also garage punk. But, what is most important these Finns deliver such beautiful melodies and almost melancholic vibes like only bands from that country can make. Atmosphere of sadness, but beauty at the same time. Vocals are very important to me in such bands, and Flesh Roxon vocalist has one of the greatest voices in the genre, being up there somewhere equal to Victor Zac from Koffin Kats. There are ten songs on this record and my personal favorites are Living In Pain, Lets Fucking Die and King Of Bad Decisions. Go have a listen and check out this killer band and for sure one of the best releases this year.

(review) The Writhers – In One Gulp e.p.

The Writhers are hailing from San Diego, California and this is their brand new e.p. that came out today. This e.p. contains five songs plus instrumental intro called Devilmask Approaches. When the first song Rot Rot Rot opened up I was blown away. It was like Dead Kennedys were playing horrorpunk meaning old school Cali punk with horror lyrics about alien invasion in What Is That? or maybe maniac stalkers in Pulp are to about to win you over for sure. The guitar work reminds of The Cramps a bit, and vocally the singer has similar tone and voice as Jello Biafra which makes this band interesting because I have never listened to this kind of horrorpunk band. This is one more proof how horrorpunk scene is diverse and beautiful, different in its diversity and influences. My personal favorite on this record is Cold Day, maybe because it is the most epic and melodic song of them all. Devilmaks Defeated? is the closing song, being a bit weird with keyboard backgrounds, spoken word and eerie atmosphere, but reminded me a lot of small town slasher horror movies back in the eighties, I don´t know why, maybe because overall vibe of the song. This is a good and interesting e.p.

(review) Aezoth-eulogy to nothing(undead artists records)

Eulogy To Nothing_CoverDigital

Aezoth are from Germany and this is their new release that I got from the excellent label Undead Artists Records

This debut album of Aezoth contains 12 songs. This is basically horrorpunk, yet with a touch of sludge, doom and death rock, even gothic rock. These guys are mixing many genres but they do is fantastically. The melodies of the songs are just fantastic. The voice of the singer is for sure one of the best girl vocals I have heard in the scene for the last couple of years. The songs are dramatic, atmospheric, like phenomenal A Lonely Night Of Loss And Doubt, also superb punkrock uptempo Feed The Poor Eat The Rich. The titles to the songs contain a bit black humour and irony like Selfdissecting Zombie or Anecdote About A Lost Body also the title song which is one of the top three songs for me on this record. This is a fantastic debut album, so go try this one. If you like drama, esoteric melodies, horror and punk with goth sombre kinda sad vibe, this is the right one for you.
