Uphill Struggle are from Denmark and this is their new record. Copenhagen based band brings 6 songs of fast and melodic skatepunk. There is nothing really new or revolutionary here. But, there is one big thing. The music of this band reminds a lot of 90-ies skatepunk and all those old school Fat and Epitaph releases and that brought smile upon my face because we all love those records and grew up listening to them. So, here is not complication, no bullshit, just plain and simple old school melodic skatepunk with good vocals, great melodies and harmonies and choruses that make you hum and sing along while listening to the record. This is only six songs record, so I am eager to hear full length and maybe catch somewhere these guys play live. Recommended songs: Primary Psychopath, By Myself.
NEXØ are hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark and this is one of the strongest debut albums that I have listened lately. These guys are playing noisy, energetic, old school hardcore punk with fast drumming, vocals screamed at the top of the lungs, great bass lines that sometimes lead the song, like in The Chemical Generation, sometimes noisy parts and above all, full of energy, honesty, smart lyrics and leaves you wanting more and jumping all around your room while playing this record. There are 9 songs on this record, but my favorites are Ecstasy, 1312. Mostly Harmless and Break The Bank. As I said, the lyrics are great, dealing with police brutality, modern slavery, drugs, hard life and other nice themes fit for hardcore punk bands. Great and strong debut album and I heartily recommend this one for all the fans of fantastic diy hardcore punk.
I love Volbeat. I love them since I heard Guitar Gangsters And Cadillac Blood album. I immediately fell in love with their mix of psychobilly, doo wop and metal and I can safely say that they created postulates for the whole new subgenre called metalbilly.
Now, some years later and couple of albums later, the Danes return with their brand new studio album. What almost upon first note falls on mind is the lack of metalbilly anymore. Yes, they went for the whole more melodic approach, slowed some songs down and made them even more catchy than before and yes, maybe more commercial. But, the old Volbeat strong songwriting is still here and Michael Poulsen˙s voice is something that I will never have enough, for me one of the best vocalists in the business, ever. There are couple of sure hits on the album like Cheapside Sloggers, Maybe I Believe or Leviathan. This is definitely not the best Volbeat album, but it is the most melodic and most catchy in their opus and if you are a fan you will love it. I know I do.
