(movie) Woooooo! Becoming Ric Flair (2022) – moving documentary about wrestling legend!

I remember when I was a kid, my friends called me to their place to watch wrestling together. Then that was WWF Superstars and WWF Challenge on cable tv. I was immediately struck by the storylines, characters larger than life, matches, betrayals, brotherhood and sisterhood and although it is ‘only’ sports entertainment, I stick with wrestling even today and never miss ‘Monday Night Raw’ or ‘WWE Smackdown’. But I also follow AEW Wrestling who also have quality stories, great wrestling and characters. I also watch WWE NXT with younger talent coming to fold and one day get to main roster of WWE. So, when this documentary was announced on Peacock, I waited and the wait is finally over, I have watched it. This one tells the story about 50 year career and Hall of famer Ric Flair in two hours time, also known as ‘Nature Boy’ whose daughter Charlotte is nowadays WWE Women’s Smackdown champion heading into Wrestlemania season in three weeks from now. This one lets Ric tell his story in his own words mainly, from being adopted kid, to his wrestling start, being hit by lightning and surviving, also surviving plane crash, alcohol, drugs, having his son fatally overdose on drugs and his marriages and women adventures. I was left wondering how is this man even still alive after what I watched in this movie. There are touching moments of his final WWE match, his comeback from death and some of that brought moist to my eyes. I think, one day there will be biopic of his life for sure. Great one indeed. Hats off to the legend of wrestling!

(movie) Houston, We Have a Problem!(2016) – did Yugoslavia have space program?

Hey, I finally watched this one. This is an awarded documentary movie which tells the story about Yugoslav space program, was it myth of reality? Was it real? The movie follows two storylines, first being Yugoslav chief of state Tito, story about did Tito really order development of space program in vast underground air base called ‘Objekt 505’ and did Yugoslavia really sell the program to United States and JFK, later on Johnson and Nixon? The film crew take us to the abandoned base and barracks, eerie and left monuments of another time. Being from Croatia and having grown up in Yugoslavia it was very interesting for me to watch this documentary. I can safely say, Tito was a character larger than life, although for some he was a dictator and cruel ruthless individual, he was a character for sure with Cuban cigars, managing his way between West and East and staying strong and independent force by itself.

Second storyline follows guy in wheelchair called Ivan Pavic(played by Bozidar Smiljanic), former rocket scientist and expert who came from United States to Croatia’s island Pag and Serbia capital Belgrade to meet with his daughter Natasa(played by Branka Selic) who believed all her life that her father was dead and buried in a grave on island Pag. His story, if true is moving and not even best spy movies would make the story like his. Between we have characters talking like former Yugoslav counter intelligence Major General, and also we hear philosopher Slavoj Zizek who tells the best one in the end of the movie, it might not be true, but it is true anyway! Great and interesting movie, I recommend this one to all of you.
