Reunions from San Francisco recently released their first full length record and I listened and reviewed it for this zine.
After first two ep-s, the writing and recording process for this first full length took almost two years. This album contains ten songs of beautiful melodic 90-ies punkrock with some emo touch thrown in for good measure. The music of this band can be compared to Nothington, Hot Water Music, even Bouncing Souls and I love every single minute of this album. These are emotions hundred percent pure mixed with ferocious rebellion of punkrock with lyrics created from depths of the soul that everyone can relate to. If I must recommend some songs that are like highlights of the record for me, that would be Present Past Future Perfect, Sentimentality Is For Suckers, and Slow Fade. This is a great record and if you are a fan of punk with emotions and melody, go get this one.
Comrades released new full length record with Facedown Records and I listened and reviewed the record for our zine.
This band is basically two people operation, consisting of Joe and Laura McElroy. They started playing in Virginia back in 2008.under different band name, but now they are Colorado based band. This new record contains 10 beautiful songs. The music can be categorized as noisy hardcore with emo and punkrock influences. The opener Fault Lines just blew me away with the atmosphere and superb interplay between Laura´s melodic and Joe´s screaming harsh vocals, with guitars creating haunting melodies backed with rolling thunderous drums. Throughout the whole album, some haunting and mystique atmosphere like fog drifting slowly through the landscape surrounds me as a listened with Cliff Dwelling being one of my favorites which takes me sonically really to some other dimension. Goosebumps arose on my skin listening to this record. No Past is also one of my favorites on the record being somehow the heaviest song. Hollow Point is another recommended song with catchy yet simple guitar melody and harsh vocals. Lyrically this band goes into more personal waters, I don´t have a lyric sheet, but as I understand this is a band with lyrics to which I can relate to, also I can battle my inner demons while listening to this wonderful music. Check this one out, it is a keeper!
Since the start of the band over 10 years ago, these guys have been almost constantly touring and that is audible in their work being more mature, more experienced and more firm than the last full length album. There are 11 songs on this album and although the music of Carousel Kings is in its basics pop punk, there is so much more now in their music than merely that. There is also alternative indie rock, emo punk, even good old pop melodies layered like fine sugar over a nice cake. The melodies are beautiful and I just love how this band combines all the elements into one great end product being an album that makes you happy when listening and I want to believe that the band appreciates that fact. The songs that I would like to recommend from this record as being somehow above the rest of other material, are Lock Meowt and Code Breaker(Smile), also check out the videos made for both songs. Nice one.
