Fastloud are hailing from Barcelona, Spain and this is their new record. On this record we get 10 songs of fast skatepunk/melodic hardcore punk. I love this record, it is just the way I like such music, simple, fast, no pretending and having great melodies in vocal lines, cool harmonies and catchy songs made for singing along or humming to the melody. They remind me a lot of all those old school Epitaph and Fat bands in the glorious nineties, meaning No Use For A Name, Lagwagon, Nofx and similar, having a lot of fire and passion in their songs. The lyrics are personal and I think anyone of us can relate to them, they are not coded messages in slowed down songs, hehe. My personal favorites on this record are: The 4th Wall, Strangers and Side By Side.
Thousand Islands Records continues its triumphant crusade in bringing us awesome bands and fantastic records, for all of us who like our punk fast and melodic. This, time we listened and reviewed the new Call It A Day record.
This band comes from Strasbourg, France and, you guessed it, they play awesome melodic punk hardcore or skatepunk if you will. The record contains three songs. For Your Safety is for me the best of the three songs, but Empty Promises is close, both being fast skatepunk with excellent melodies and awesome main vocals backed by nicely done backing vocal harmonies, topped off with great guitar hooks and song structures. The third song, named Valium is everything else but tranquilizer, being awesome energetic bomb to complete this little record with some screamed vocals thrown in to interact with the melodic voice and the combination is great. I love every single minute of this record and I really can˙t wait for the full length.
Straight outta Manchester come Fair Do´s with their awesome new album on Lockjaw Records and I listened to the record and reviewed it for this webzine.
UK has an awesome melodic hardcore punk scene with bands like The Human Project, Avas, Darko coming to mind immediately. Manchester´s Fair Do˙s were formed in 2008. and “Leopards” is their high anticipated debut album. It contains ten song of crushing and uncompromising technical and fast melodic hardcore punk with political and smart lyrics.
First, besides music, for me the vocals are very important and this band has it all. The screams, the anger, the melody and style being qualities of their singer, one of the best in the genre right now. There are couple of songs that I must mention as my highlights from this album. First of them is “Distress Call” because it has a fine line between being an angry screamed hardcore song and melodic punk anthem. “Cowabunga” is a continuation of that style having one of the best underlining guitar melodies that I have heard in the last couple of years. “Closing In” is for me the best song on this record and made me listen to it again and again with its neck breaking speed and melodic ferocity. “Hostile Company” feels like a crouching tiger coiled and waiting to attack and tear you apart with its structured riffs and melodies. The last song I will mention as being awesome is “Lose My Touch” with fast and so heartfelt chorus. This is an excellent album, so order your copy and see the guys play live somewhere, because this material is certainly great live.
