(record review)WET DREAMS-Wet Dreams(Black Pop Records)

Norway is not only home for black metal, but also good punkrock. Wet Dreams from Oslo are garage punk band and I listened and reviewed their new self titled record, that is out via Black Pop Records, for our zine.

What immediately comes to mind when the album starts is dirty rock n roll production of the album, bass being distorted, guitars tuned up and the vocals sounding like distorted or singing with some effects on, like in the song Bad Boy. The album contains 10 songs in harsh punk garage style. What I was reminded of while listening to the music of Wet Dreams is an Australian band called Clowns. This music somehow reminds me of Clowns, but a bit slower and more rock n rollish. This whole garage punk thing is really not my cup of tea, so even 60-ies influenced songs like Beautiful passed me by without me noticing or being very deligthed with the music. There are also some blues influences like in Blueslata, but still, somehow, this album just doesn´t work out for me. Unfortunately this band is just not my cup of tea.

(record review)THE PHOSPHORUS BOMBS-“Blank Slates”

I never cease to be amazed with the Australian punk hardcore scene. So many awesome bands, so many awesome people and although we live across half the world from each other, I feel connected to them by the magic of music. The Phosphorus Bombs from Sydney have a new record out and I listened and reviewed it for this webzine.

“Blank Slates” contains five songs of refreshing yet somehow nostalgic hardcore punk. The music is very harsh and energetic, angry and noisy, yet it still contains enough hidden melody underneath to keep it catchy and excellent. Don´t get me wrong, this guys really know how to handle their music instruments and play well and thought out punk. The lyrics are personal, somehow self deprecating but still enough political and smart between the lines. The song that I loved the most while listening this record a couple of times was “Overdue”, being the most melodic and energetic song on the record for me. This is an excellent record by the excellent band, so go get it, write to the guys in the band, tell them how you loved and why you loved their music, I am sure it will mean tons to them!

(record review)Rat Parade-“S/T e.p.”

I never heard of Rat Parade prior to this record and I am glad that I discovered this band.

This trio comes from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and they are playing dirty, kinda raw, but melodic punkrock with a lot of garage influences. The opener “Don´t look down” is a nice piece of punkrock with melodic anthem made for singalong at the gigs. “Roped” has some dirty, snotty, vocals that are just perfect for this kind of punkrock that Rat Parade is playing. “Hate Your Guts” is in my opinion the best song on this record and I can imagine myself slamming and pogoing around the pit while the band tears the stage apart rocking out with this song. “No respect” paints the perfect picture of this band, refusing to bow down to any kind of conformism and staying true to the DIY ethics and the philosophy of the punkrock scene. Support the guys and show them some punkrock love, I am sure they will appreciate it very much!
