(record review)THE BIG BAD-Dressed For A Funeral+The Big Bad(e.p.)

The Big Bad have been on the scene for 15 years now. Since 2004.although the lineup has changed, the constant line that keeps the band strong besides making excellent music is the frontman Zackula Von Nasty. This record is celebration of 15 years gore soaked, eerie horrorpunk hardcore and I listened and reviewed it for our zine.

Hailing from the haunted hills of West Virginia, these guys have been inspired from the start of the band with the folklore tales to evolve their horrorpunk hardcore in a way of making fist pumping in the air singalong anthems and melodic verse lines transforming to hymnic choruses with awesome vocals coupled with beautiful backing vocal harmonies. Not to forget fast and energetic hardcore punk guitar hooks and thunderous drumming.

This record contains 19 songs. It serves as a document of early times of The Big Bad, meaning the band´s debut full length Dressed For A Funeral, the e.p. The Big Bad plus unreleased songs and live songs to make a great record for the fans of the band and those that will become the fans by listening to this one. My favorite songs are Ghoul Girl with doo wop influences. Everyone who follows me knows how much I love doo wop. Dead End Drive In and Spit On Your Grave are also my favorites of the record. I love how this early songs show all the rawness but also melodic side of the band and proves once again that horrorpunk is best music on this planet.

The music these guys play is fast, emotional but melodic hardcore punk that reminds a lot of the 90-ies bands like Trial, Abhinanda, Racial Abuse and similar bands. There are 5 songs on this record. The lyrics are in Italian language and I can˙t understand what they are singing about, but the band says the lyrics are more on introspective and personal side. What I personally like about this record and this band is how they managed to combine old school Italian hardcore punk vibe with more American and Swedish hardcore scene influences to make one perfect picture and awesome debut. I am eager to listen to the full record once it comes out, because I am sure it will be just awesome.
