And now for something completely in this webzine. Arcade Destiny hails from Anaheim, California and this release contains five songs. This is a one man band playing nineties punk influenced synthwave electronic music and it sounds interesting, but not something for every day listening. Music is almost fast hardcore punk but synth melodies replace guitars and in my opinion there is a bit too much effect on vocals, because the guy sings okay, and I would love to hear more clean vocals melodies then it would be like all those California pop/melodic/skate punk bands, but I understand that this is the way to keep originality and not sound like someone’s clone or copy. This is chaotic, beautiful little EP and my personal favorite is ‘Not Like The Other Girls’. Lyrics are personal and deal with relationships, communication, mental health…I love the lyrics on this one! Imagine listening to fast hardcore skatepunk with synths instead of guitars and if that idea is not too horrifying for you give this one a chance!
The Fomites are from Canada and this is their new album containing twelve songs. What I love about this record is, that it is pretty raw hardcore punk, fast and strong, but also with melody and some epic guitar riffs thrown in the songs for good measure. Vocals remind me a lot of Anti Heros and similar bands, being rough yet can sing at the same time where needed and with raw music, also fit rawer vocals. Lyrics deal with more fun side of things with songs like ‘Pizza Problems’, or ‘Help Me Toaster Oven Pizza, You’re My Only Hope’ you just can’t go wrong. Musicianship is really tight and delivers punch after punch with songs like ‘Strange Things Afoot At The Circle K’ and ‘We Got The Tools, We Got The Talent’ which are my personal favorites among many others on this record. I love the bass lines on ‘5X5’ and this song shows the musical skills of this fine band. Some songs have almost anthemic riffs like ‘Mutants’ which is fantastic. This is a really great band and great album, so go take a listen!
