(review) The Great Lie-Defying Extinction

a3084768740_10

Time for another hardcore band from New York to grace the pages of this zine. The Great Lie are from The Big Apple and this is their brand new e.p. What we get on this record are six songs of brutal hardcore with metal influences, also streetpunk in some song arrangements. My personal favorites on the record are Devilbox and Island, My Island. The guitar riffs are noise influenced at times and song A Game Of Horseshoes reminded me a bit of 108 in some parts. The vocals are angry and screaming and fit perfectly to the songs, also spoken word in Island, My Island connects atmosphere and emotions with aggression perfectly. This is great e.p. and I would love to see these guys play live to check out how this material sounds and interacts with the crowd.

(review) Wake The Dead-Still Burning

Cover

Wake The Dead are coming from Marseille, France and this is their brand new record. The new record contains eight songs of modern brutal, yet melodic hardcore with lots of catchy riffs, anguished shouted nice vocals and lots of backing vocals singalong parts just made for fist pumping in the air and singing at the concerts. If I must compare the music of these guys to some band I have listened lately, it would be Croatian band Shin who play similar music to Wake The Dead. The lyrics of the songs are talking about hope, surviving, inner demons, love, friendship and I can easily relate to them, because they are not some coded messages in slowed down songs hehe if you know what I mean. The songs I recommend as being somehow highlights for me are: Giving Up, All My Flames, Lone Wolf. Excellent album.

(review) Zona D’Ombra-Tensioni e Distanze

Zona D`Ombra are hailing from Como, Italy and have been around since 2011. This is their brand new record and it contains 13 songs with lyrics in Italian language.

The music of this band is fantastic old school hardcore punk, fast and furious at times, and melodic and emotional at times, bordering with skatepunk and this is one of the better records that I have listened lately. Il Cielo Sopra Kamara is the song that reminds me of my childhood and pumping fist in the air and slamming to my favorite hardcore bands. This band has so much energy in the music and Italian only helps since I think it is one of the most melodic and nice languages to sing in punk hardcore. Guitars are fine, riffs are cutting in your brain, drumming is perfect and fast, vocals fit perfectly to the song structures. I don˙t speak Italian, but judging by titles and band info, they are mixing political and personal everyday life to which we all can relate to so that is another plus. Recommended songs: Tensione, Ali Bruciate. Good hardcore album.
