(record review) DRUNKTANK-Return Of The Infamous Four

Drunktank recently released their new record and I listened and reviewed it for our zine.

cover

The Dutch skatepunks were founded in 2003.and this new record is a continuation of their 2010.album The Infamous Four. The ten songs on this record are just what I love having in my skatepunk hardcore. Fast, melodic, mighty and energetic with enough metalic efficiency and harmonies to still be punk and not to go too much into progressive waters. I am awed by this record it is so mighty. I was practicaly blown apart by We Want More being almost a mixture of hardcore punk and European school of epic and fast melodic power metal. These guys really know how to handle their instruments, not to mention epic melodies, anthemic choruses with many backing oooos and aaaas just made for singalong. Unfortunately I missed the guys playing Beach stage at this year´s Punk Rock Holiday, because I am sure they are an unstoppable force when playing live. From the songs, although all of them are powerhouses, I must recommend Hammer Of Justice, Courage Of A Few and Darker Side as my highlights of the record. This one is for sure one of the best melodic punk hardcore records of this year!

(record review) QUESTION MARK-Inner Call

a1796342527_10

Dutch hardcore punk band Question Mark have a new record out. There are 15 songs on this record and I can safely say concerning the music of this band that this is not your typical skatepunk but a mixture of quality fast melodic punk, hardcore, smart lyrics and even some rock n roll undertones underneath it all. At least that is how I hear it. The opener Brickwall is fantastic song structure of above mentioned, making the record sweet and interesting. Hierarchy has a catchy start melody played in unusual way turning into straightforward hardcore punk anthemic song. This band found a way how to handle and play new school of melodic hardcore punk with a respectful nod towards the old masters. One of the songs that I must also mention as highlight of the album is Fail to rise, with catchy nice guitar main melody and being a very cool song. Super guitar harmonies of Back from the dead will sure make your day better and bring a bit of goosebumps on your skin. I will not write here about all of the songs, because the beauty of underground punk hardcore scene lays in discovering your own new favorite bands and favorite songs for yourself. I am total fan of this band and I am sure glad I discovered them.

(review) INK BOMB-Fiction

This is the debut full length for this awesome band, the album that has been growing and getting like good wine since the band´s inception in 2015. There are 11 songs on this record. The music of Ink Bomb is a smart mix of emotional melodic punkrock with fast hardcore punk and skatepunk. I love the faster songs full of energy like Griefwalker and Brittle, but also mid tempo well written songs like Anchors. The vocals are superb, neither shouted nor too mellow and cheesy, just like I love them to be, to emphasize the emotions behind music. Backing vocals are also adding great harmonies to the structure. My personal favorite of all the songs on the record is Sternschanze which I listened to over and over again, what a beautiful and sad guitar sound there. The lyrics to the songs are a nice mix of personal and underneath it all political themes because you can´t escape politics nowadays with all the shit. This is a very nice debut, I love this record.
