(record review)THE LILLINGTONS-“Stella Sapiente”(Fat Wreck Chords)

Cover

Who could have thought that after the pause of 11 years that THE LILLINGTONS could not only come back, but release one of the best melodic punkrock albums this year. Released under the wings of Fat Wreck Chords, this album contains 12 songs.

The new material is in my opinion a bit different from the old stuff, the song structures are a bit more complicated and I think that the band brought some new influences in their songmaking. The opener “Golden Dawn/Knights Templar” just blew me away. It might be only me, but I heard some NWOBHM influences in “Insect Nightmares”. Also, I heard some of The Misfits in “London Fog”. The mainman Kody sings better than ever and the anthemic choruses and harmonies on the backing vocals made goosebumps on my skin. The opening melody of “Zodiac” is outstanding and this song is absolutely one of the highlights on this album that has no weak spot. I would love and I am hoping that I will catch these guys live somewhere somehow. Definitely a winner!

Horrorpunk legend Argyle Goolsby just released new video for Mister Babadook

Horrorpunk legend Argyle Goolsby just released an excellent new video for Mr Babadook, track from his great album Darken Your Doorstep released earlier this year. I love Blitzkid and their legacy on horrorpunk scene, but Goolsby post Blitz solo work is also great horrorpunk dark music and would love to see him perform live these tracks one day when he arrives on tour in Europe again.

(record review)THE WITCH WILL DIE TOMORROW-“Man Who Never Cares”

The Witch Will Die Tomorrow just released their second full length album.

The Witch Will Die Tomorrow - Man Who Never Cares - cover

The band comes from Chelyabinsk area in Russia and are playing an unusual combination of post punk, goth rock mixed with some horrorpunk influences.

I dont like any post this, post that description in their music, so I could go describing their music as being combination of gothic and horrorpunk. There are some vocal lines and song structures that reminded me of Type O Negative in “Dead Art Thou”. Slow, ritualistic riffs that turn into more aggressive song mesmerized me in “Beetlejuices Revenge”. Some songs made me sad wishing only the comfort in darkness like “Paramour”.

The 8 songs on this album musically and lyrically speak of desolation, despair, fighting the inner demons and all other beautiful themes that made us love horrorpunk and darker side of music. The band put all their stuff for free on Bandcamp but you can donate and show them your support, or you can only share their music so the band see that you appreciate their effort. Nice album.
