Some things never die – a tribute to j-sin trioxin.

I never knew or got to meet Jason in person to thank him for being there for me. Not being there for me personally but through his music and lyrics.

Like many kids I got into horrorpunk through The Misfits. Afterwards I learned about Blitzkid and all that wonderful extended family around that scene, bands like Darrow Chemical Company, Cryptkeeper Five, Shadow Windhawk and especially one band, Mister Monster. When I first heard one of their songs it was Amy Sue and This Night I Call Bad Luck. I immediately fell in love with this band. Why? Because they are unique. Jason´s voice was so beautiful, so emotional, combining doo wop which I love so much and punk rock into one gripping combination. The melodies, the lyrics, the lifestyle, it was something which helped me through dark times of twenty year long lasting depression which I fight to this day. Every day is a struggle for people who fight with depression. You must always be at least half a step ahead of it, otherwise you will lose the battle and that might mean you lose war, believe me, I lost couple of battles and also couple of times being an inch to lose war if you can read what I mean by that.

All that time Jason´s music and lyrics were there for me, expressing through all that horrorpunk imagery and lyrics in fact the horrors of real life we all must fight and experience every single day. These horrors are more scary than every movie, story, legend or song. I buried my brothers with his music, loved laughed and smiled with his music. I still smile when I hear his songs. They remind me of what he has done for me and I love to believe his music and legacy made me a better man, that I am today, 43 years old and being in this scene for 28 years now.

I wanted to express my gratitude with this column in my zine, because I will never get to meet Jason and tell him in person all that. His legacy lives on!

(review) The Inhumans – Double Feature

a3162243935_10

The Inhumans from Illinois released their new two songs single. Zombies ate my neighbors is a straightforward fast horrorpunk bomb with nice melody and what I love about this single is raw, almost rehearsal old school production taking me back to the glorious times of early nineties demo tape trading. The vocals are great, melodic yet not cheesy, backing vox harmonies are done with style and both songs are simple but in your face horrorpunk. I wanna be a monster is my personal favorite and a bit better but that is due to my personal taste. Can´t wait for the longer material with more songs.

(review) Trap Hill Collision – Monsters From Another World

a0414685425_10

Trapp Hill Collision are coming from Virginia and this is their new e.p. This record contains 6 excellent melodic horrorpunk songs done just in a way I love it. Uplifting, melodic, energetic and with emotions. Freakshow Infection is one of the most catchy songs on the record with beautiful vocal lines and backing harmonies on choruses. The vocals remind me a little of Ray from Teenage Bottlerocket in some parts of the songs. Zombie Killing State is more harsh and classic punk rock sounding songs, straight on for pogo and moshing in front of the stage. Pony Shark has some fast hardcore punk influences and screaming vocals which fit perfectly to the song. Demonic Noises is the most brutal song on the record being death thrash metal in its roots with some raw hardcore punk, even sludgy parts. Skull Crushing Demons From Space has some nice guitar hooks and it is also one of my favorites on this record. Why? Because it is again more melodic side of the band, what can I say? I love my horrorpunk more anthemic and melodic and this one is a keeper. Indeed this song is a nice mixture between old school horrorpunk and metal influences. In Mortality is an epic atmospheric ending to this nice e.p.
