(record review)DENS-No Small Tempest(Facedown Records)

Dens are from Richmond, VA and they recently released new record on Facedown Records. I listened to this one and reviewed it for our zine.

499669

The record contains 4 songs of beautifully written and performed post hardcore with emo and indie rock influences. But, not all is so serene and calm as the description of their music might sound like. For example Sackcloth & Ash is pretty harsh and desperate soundscape mixed with soothing and warm heartfelt melodies. The lyrics are personal, music is technically played on very high level and I would like very much to see and hear this songs performed live because I am sure that would be an awesome experience. This four songs are an epic whole and my recommendation for you is that you listen this record in one instance, then you can experience it˙s worth. Nice.

(record review)SCHMUTZKI-Mehr Rotz Als Verstand(Bäm Records / Cargo Records)

Schmutzki are from Stuttgart, Germany and their new record is released via their Bäm Records and Cargo Records. I listened to the record and reviewed it for our zine.

I must admit that I have never heard of this band prior to this release. Schmutzki play melodic punkrock with pop punk and eighties music influences thrown in, so their record sounds pretty interesing to me as a listener. The record contains 12 songs and all of the lyrics are in German language, they are mostly personal with some humour and sarcasm thrown in. Some of the songs that somehow stood out as a highlight for me are Zu Jung, Mehr Rotz Als Verstand and Das Bist Nicht Du. The music is melodic, easy to dance to and jump around at the festivals. I would lie if I told you that all of the material is awesome, some songs on this record are just not my cup of tea and are just too poppy and too little punk but in all, I can imagine this material being awesome party at open air festivals and people smiling, dancing and fooling around while Schmutzki are playing.
